Dai the Socket
Natwest give you a free young persons rail card for 5 years if you join with them, but apparently you're meant to look past the free shit lol, although thats £20 a year.I'm just going with Intelligent Finance who are a sub-siduary of The Halifax bank. They deal only online, have really good internet banking stuff, you can get Visa debit cards, easy to transfer money and stuff, and you get a good current account rate.I've had no problems banking with them in 2 years now and their phone centres are in Edinburgh and they're all really helpful scottish women haha.www.if.com for more Info I think. Has anyone seen my shoe?
Yeah I had a look into Natwest because of the railcard haha.I'm not keen on halifax, my parents had an account with them and said they were nothing on HSBC. Dai the Socket
I'm not keen on halifax, my parents had an account with them and said they were nothing on HSBC.That's the thing though, I'd look into IF still. A subsiduary just means they're underwritten really, their whole methods of banking are different, starting with they have no branches. I worked for HBOS a while back and know Halifax are shit, but IF aren't Worth looking into anyway. Customer service is totally different, rates etc are different blah blah. boon racoon
Do NOT stay with HSBC. I'm moving from them to Natwest this week.Reason being...all banks used to give you 3 or so years to pay off your overdraft when you graduate - interest free. They reduced it gradually so you'd have to pay back £500 a year until you were back in the black.BUTHSBC have now changed their policy to say that the moment you graduate, any money you are overdrawn you have to pay 6% ish interest on until it's repayed! Not good considering most students are -£1500 or more by the time they graduate. They are the only bank doing this at the moment. I've no idea why. Because they're a bunch of money grabbing tards?Natwest give you 3 years to repay interest free, so in July this is what i'll have instead of having a pay a tonk load of interest until i'm out of the red! Has anyone seen my shoe?
Nice one, a good reason to switch if there ever was one haha!
JonMack
I'm with Halifax because you get a £2750 overdraft. I'm currently £1500 overdrawn and i've set my overdraft to that, thinking about upping it to £2k just incase, but I know just incase will end up meaning "more money for new camera" and i'll end up with no money, so I don't know...But I've had no problems with Halifax at all, very nice people. I thought it might only be hear-say or only applying to people signing up after the policy change...but I got a letter (though badly worded!) through a couple of weeks ago confirming it affects current account holders too. JD™
Yeah i'll have a look now.Anyone with Lloyds TSB?i'm with lloyds, and although not a student they have been real efficient for me. I think that they seem to have a simpler approach to banking - like not having so many feebies or having to give people money to open an account with them. any queries i've had have been handled very professionally and isnt that all you really need with a bank? to know your money is safe and you're not being raped on interest charges?J
531joshua
i'm with lloyds and halifax - but only use my lloyds account now. and for a good reason.lloyds are 10/10 for me, never had any problems and they are as helpful as possible when even i've needed it.seem the most secure aswell, as their internet banking login has several steps, compared to halifax which seems kind of too basic for an online bank thing?anyway, ive requested for my name to be changed with halifax for over 4 times now, still hasnt happend so i give them 5/10. being generous.lloyds ***!
