Got a complete for cheap and it seemed ok. Geo is like a Control almost. The 18/12 ratio sucks for sidehops etc.

Soo after changing some parts, which turned out to be everything now, i fitted my new rear wheel. Echo freehub with 18/15 gear ratio as per standard. Well basically it won't have it. It's either too far in or too far out the dropouts. By far i mean so far it's not even in the dropouts. Lack of dropout means i can't drill and tap a hole for snail cam bolt and use that sort of tension. Lack of strength from a half link chain means a no no. And the lack of magura movement i can't do another bodge to the frame (file or add some dropout on).

Now, i've resulted to getting a 14t cog for the rear and running 18/14. A tad harder than normal but i was going to try it later on but i thought i would get these problems with a 14t not a 15t standard.

So it's basically just a word of warning for buyers for the bike/frameset and anyone who might have an idea?

*ahem*

The thing being with an 18/15 gear setup you take 2 links out and the wheel is too far in the dropouts. Well too far i mean the chain won't even connect. Put 2 links in and the tensioners bottom out. Plus i only have 2 or 3mm to play with in my magura setup. Got me?

Not kidding at all

I've never had any problems with running them in numerous chains on numerous rigs, but if you're so set against it then you'll have to go for a different setup

Run a different size ring up front or something to give the extra chain tension needed (obviously with the relative cog out back to compensate)

the story behind the half link chain????

iv had 2 not snapped them? are the people snapping them just bashing them/trapping them on walls? and the pins are pushing out? iv got nothing but positive feedback for my half link chain.

like someone else has said you can still get alot of acceleration out of 18-16 (Y):)

How old's the chain?

I've set a few of these up with 18... 15 I think (if not it'll be 16) after creating holes for snail cam bolts - they've been great ever since.

The chain is a Collapse which is about half a year old. I honestly can't remember buying it. Due recon i might have stretched real bad?

18/15 with this chain isn't with any sort of chance going to work without a split link. Could it really have stretched that much though.

Snail cams!? Where the hell did you find the room to drill holes for them. There is enough room for me to do it but were speaking about less than a few mm of space after the hole has been tapped.

I might try it. But i do like a bit of more speed for front touchs that's why the 14t.

kool, i find that the 18-16 you can use smaller run up for taps etc.

Try a half link chain, mark the pin you join it with (in case it snaps where it was joined) and if the chain snaps, check the link that it snaps on and see if it is because it has been trapped (which it will leave dust/mark from the wall, if you get me)

Good idea but i don't fancy snapping a chain these days. I will try the 16 and 14 cogs out. I've spent enough money already and i'll see if i can get a deal somewhere for both.

Hmm as it does seem that most people are down with the 16t idea then i went for that in the end. I couldn't be bothered to order another cog on top so if it's not too good then i'll buy a 14t later on. I just want to ride the damn thing without any troubles.

Thanks :D

the story behind the half link chain????

Ive snapped links no less than 9 (count them) 9 times. Not the pins, they were solid, but actually shearing the outer parts of the chain, clean in two.

That was the interlocker. I've heard the interlocker V2 is better but to be honest, I'll never trust them again and rather just settle for a decent setup with standard kool/khe chain
