Python Riders

Bearded Midget

Recommended Posts

ok well basically ive been looking at new frames lately and the python catches my eye. everyone i see ride one rides them like a beast. but the wheelbase is rather long on the longer version, i am just curious about how tall you might have to be to ride the longer version, as im like 5 foot 3 i beleive so im pretty midget, but i dont want to get the short unless you can tell me it still rides a beast.

so anyone got opinions on how both versions ride and any idea what one i should go for (when i get the dosh :P)

Tell me your not buying one because you think you will ride better for it. people who are good on them are good riders it's not just the frame, anyone can be good on any frame once they are used to it. i know that some frames are easier to do some on things than others.

I used to have the old mk1 python many years ago, which measured in at 1045 (silly long) and I was just under 6ft, and I found that too long.

Best bet is to see if you can find someone with a short one, and have a quick go. Try to base your oppinions around frame reach ect, not around the componentry that they have, as that will give an indication of if its the right size for you, not how it rides, as yours will feel different with different parts on.

I recommend the shorter version.

I ride the Zoo Python 2005 Long:

1045 Wheelbase

364 Chainstays

72 Headangle

BB Rise ????? Not alot anyways.

Im bang on 6ft and i find that it is perfect for me. Doesn't feel to long and i am really comfy on it.

Just go to a big group ride and have ago on a few short and long pythons.

Danny :)

no man i didnt mean it like that lol, i meant the way they are on the bike, like the balance on the back wheel and the way people gap on them is very similar, its very easy to keep the front of by the looks of things, thats what i meant not as in being able to do things bigger, although i imagine sidehops and gaps would increase a bit quicker with a longer frame.

I'm about 5ft 8/5ft 9 and I ride a long python. Length feels bang on but, that could be because of me running a monty 221ti bar and stem, think they make the bike feel shorter? I would reccomend the short version for yourself though :).

yeh, i ride a t-comp at the moment which is like 1015 wheelbase i think, so going to the short version would be a big step i suppose, oh and by the way, would i benefit from taking my bash plate of and just using my bash ring because i think im becoming one of those so called "weight weenies" :P

no leave it on, i missed having a bash when i went to a bashless frame, (cough get a frame with a bashplate) you worry less about killing it i know you don't care about your frame getting dented after it's been smashed up a bit, but when it's all new + prety you appreciate not having to worry about killing it 5 minutes in (Y) bashplates ***!

I ditto that man, it could affect your style of riding if you are afraid to backwheel/tap to slip down onto bash.

Aren't the new Czar frames almost the same as Pythons but have bash plates?

If you put Benito on a long Python, he would still ride just as good. Its more to do with what you thinks best suits yourself, as it is mostly the rider not the bike that makes him/her good.

But I would say get the short, as the long is very long

yeh the czar frame is litrally the same but 5mm shorter, i might go for that as it has a bash, and you have the option of a rear disc, although i will probably have a magura as i sidehop to my left and i wouldnt want to twat the rotor all the time.

cheerz for giving me and idea of how tall you are and waht bike you ride, it sort of gives me a clearer idea of what to get, cheerz,

From what I remember, you have to make a decision between disk or magura. There are 2 types of frame, as the disk version doesnt have Magura mounts, which seems mad to me but.
