531joshua
I've searched the forum and looked on the net for as much information as possible on this, so now i thought i'd see if i can get any useful information from anyone with experience on here.Me and my dad are thinking about starting a partnership, doing gardening jobs, household help and anything near abouts. Now as far as i know, to have it all legal, we need a license and to be paying the government VAT etc. What i'm looking for is anyone with advice/help/tips/information that could be useful to me, maybe if you've got experience from previously running a business or currently owning one.Thanks. Phatmike
Quick point; obviously you'll need to register your income/profits etc, but you don't need to be VAT registered 'till you're turning over £64k+
Hobnobs
Google "companies house" for info on registering as an official company.
tomturd
I work with a mate doing fencing decking and stuff. We're both registered as self employed. You'll both need to pay national insurance (about £2 a week) and declare tax on earnings at the end of the year. You can earn up to around £4500 without paying tax per year, anything over that its around £22 in every £100 that you earn (so put that aside). VAT you don't need to worry about, you just have to pay it yourself. Theres no getting stuff 'vat free' or anything - at the end of the day someone has to pay it (you). You'll need public liability insurance which is pretty cheap I think (around £200 per year).I don't think you NEED to register as a business with companies house - as long as you pay the government tax they're happy. So to start up - register as self employed and get some insurance, and start working. If you really want to go into a proper legal partnership, you will need to write up a partnership agreement, theres lots of examples on google. Yeah working on it, I get loads of requests and I just process them all at once. Doing them 1 by 1 takes ages and is quite annoying.
Muel
Oh OK, I can understand you have to put a lot of time into this forum and it seems to be paying off, the new feedback system is great. The only thing I have been wondering about is maybe having a PayPal system going on? If its possible?
tomturd
(Your name has changed)PayPal system for what? I've never liked the idea of asking members for money or donations, not sure why really. But banners (usually) cover our costs. If you mean like subscriptions, like getting a star next to your name, extra PM space and stuff like that for £X a year then yeah we can set that up pretty easily - personally I'm not very interested in doing this, but if members want it then i could be persuaded

Danny Kearns
Are we basically Discussing having a members group of "Subscribers" ?. Seen this done on other forums. Works well. Subscribers have there own private section. They get to have larger avatars. They get slightly more privileges on the forum. Bigger Pm box. Im a subscriber on a warez forum. Costs $5 a year. I get to have a bigger avatar, access the subscribers lounge. Get to play all the games in the arcade without using my points what you earn for decent posts. A free 6 months subscription to rapidshare.com (What you need to download the films off the site). It works pretty damn well and helps to keep the site well maintained and up and running .I would subscribe anyways. It's all done through direct debit.Danny.
