New Car Dilemma

Evenin',

Right, I've just accepted a new job and the company will give me up to £350 per month for a car which is a f**king Godsend as it means I can ditch my girlfriends rusty old shitbox of a Cinquecento that we've had for years. I am also allowed, and would be willing to put in £100 of my own dosh per month to get a better motor.

The problem I now have is what to go for... I've been thinking about either a Vauxhall Astra VXR, VW Golf GTi 2.0t, Seat Leon CupraR, Audi A3 1.9Tdi Sport or the Ford Focus 2.5 st-3 (asbo)

Any ideas?

Cheers

Matt (Y)

get the golf or the leon

the astra VXR is way ott, and a bit chavvy

im yet to see a non chav/midlife crisis in an ST. (its called the asbo for a reason!)

for fun factor, i reckon the mk5 gti is your best bet, although, i think the leon is cheaper, AND more powerful, at over 250bhp.....and shares the excellent mk5 chassis. if you can stretch to a mk5 gti, why not a 2.0TFSI A3? that said, i think id still take the golf, its more fun.

personally, id save a bit of cash, and buy an S3, i recently test drove a MINT facelift 2001 plate S3, and even from the dealer, the monthly on it was only £240 over 4 years, so VERY affordable.

get something a tad older and better.

if your looking to spend 15k or so, what about a mk4 R32? now thats a REALLY cool car.

if you can afford to, really, stick with VAG, nothing else is built quite the same.

Midlife crisis yea, but chav? Don't know many chavs with £15k lying around :P

Youd be surprised! ive seen a few blinged up baseball cap wearing most likely chavs in STs. they just save the doll for a bit longer, and have another kid to get more benifits.

yes the Leon Cupra R Is a tidy car. but if i was in your shoes it would be the Gold GTi 2.0T!

i think the astra VXR would give it a fair run for its money but i think the Golf would win overall!

Are you talking buing new from the showroom or used?

If used id go have a look at some M3's!

youd be surprised.

from what i can gather so far, people who own ST's...

either rich chavs with ginger girlfriends (usually an orange st in this case) who have somehow come into money, or loaned themselves up to the hilt to buy one whilst living in a 1 bed coucil flat with 3 kids......

blokes aged 40-50, who had mk1/2 escorts back in the 70's/80's, and felt the need to go back to the blue oval when the midlife crisis set in....

the fact that they call it the asbo is enough to put me off, its no better than driving a car called the 'wanker'

turns out the '240bhp' leon cupra R is a bit of a lie..... its sold as 240bhp, yet most from new appear to make 260bhp like the new S3 is claimed to have (same engine!) and JBS (custom code HQ) have managed to get 315bhp from one after a custom remap.

the 2.0 GTI is 200bhp as standard, and is a hoot to drive. a remap will see that up to 240bhp, which would be awesome.

get the GTI or LCR.

So if you're young and dress a certain way, you can't have a good job???....

Never judge a book by it's cover. If you can get any fast car that's also 4wd, get that.

Maybe see if you like the job first before sploshing your own £100 per month at a car you'll never own.

Get a fiat uno and keep the money??

Dont think you quite understand... the company will pay a certain amount per month to lease me a car, I have to option to chip in some dosh if I want a better car.

What job is it by the way?

I'll be a junior estate agent manager in posh Ascot. (Y)

Don't forget, if it's a 'company car' then you'll probably be taxed on it. I think it's something like you pay tax on a third of the vehicle's value. Don't know, probably different depending on the circumstances. Make sure you read everything before committing.

Personally I wouldn't waste an extra £100, but then it depends how much the car means to you personally.

It was a joke con the company into giving you the money for a "hot hatch" buy a shittier and keep the money... in the real world would never work your lose your job and have no car at all.

But worth the try do it lol.

But anyways get what you want to get, no point listening to peoples points of views if you like one car more for what ever reason and makes you happier? buy it....

Can't believe people thought that, lol.

Look around the car park at work and see what everyone else is having. Read your contract because I can almost promise you that when you leave the job, you leave the car.

Because they're offering £350 for the car, I'd be suprised if most people actually went up to £350. Just seems like you're taking the piss with their offers really, but if that doesn't bother you or you work for a massive company, then fair enough...

Sorry to be a spoilt sport, but with thing like these, its not as it always seems....

Edit: just read your post, estate agent explains it all...flash car for a good and professional impression...

well you'll have a job to buy a brand new cupra R seeing as they don't make them anymore, but the new 'cupra' is a complete monster the best of the ones your are looking at by far, the focus is slow rubbish. Jus so you know the golf cupra and A3 all have the same engine. The cupra being the fastest then the A3 then the golf.

EDIT: Didn't realise you were looking at the diesel A3 So ignor my compent about the same engines

im not being funny, but if i was about to become an estate agent manager at a young age, wanted to make a good impression, proffessional image etc. i wouldnt be lookin at cars like this.

something like dan ko's merc coupe, or another base modelish merc.

a bmw 3 series, or a high specced one series.

audi a4 cabriolet.or an audi s line a4(or whatever its called, the a4 with the appearance of an s4), or just a nice a4.

possibly a new a3.

vauxhall signum, very underrated, stylish, quick, comfy, and luxurious inside, but doesnt scream "im making a wad out of selling your house "

i do like the new mondeo, very very nice car, again similar to the above.

honda accord, again same as the above, beautiful car to drive. was lookin at one of the new sports styled accord diesels the other day, i like a lot, still very quick, but economical.

engine wise, why go for a stupid big turbo'd petty car. get something around 2.0 and common rail turbo derv, and youll still sittin pretty around the 200 bhp mark, but have nice fuel economy and have a semi sensible image to all the people you work with and for.
