JonMack
I'd like to hear about prototype testing, what they're best suited to riding, etc. as I'm interested in one... but don't wanna break it within a few months!
toyota200x
I want one too. I love the mod and the stock. Any chance these will get the United States?
Tony Harrison
Nearly 30 posts and nobody has said they're going to spontaneously combust in sunlight because they're magnesium! Thank god for that! The bits look good - nice to see something new being tried.
Joe@Onza
Why has this not been done before? I mean, almost all manufactures work with Magnesium. So why has no one put the two together before? Cant help but think there is a reason for it. Bold move though.
balfa
Seeing as they are a magnesium alloy, itll be hard to judge strength by the weight compared to usual components because its not been used before. I'd guess that they will be pretty solid, maybe a bit more brittle than other rims?Based on theoretical strength to weight ratios of the pure element magnesium and aluminium, a magnesium frame should be actually be around the same weight as an aluminium frame. Alloying obviously makes a difference.Does anyone know what material the frames are made from? Edited August 9, 2007 by balfa
Greetings
They are made from magnalium, not magnesium.
TrashZen
Still need answers to the above (abuse rating?, tried?, cost? etc...)Geometry is nice, maybe a tad bit short, but what I appreciate most is the rear brakes within the frame. It may not be easy to set up the pistons but the hoose and cylinders are fully protected (humm, actually, maybe not , they are closer to the eels...) Ash-Kennard
apparently custom geo is availiable too how sweet is that
Joe@Onza
apparently custom geo is availiable too how sweet is that???????? ????????? I'm finding this all a little hard to believe. So you can ask for your own custom frame, So that means they tell the factory that them that customer x would like this geo, The factory then says " yeah, Sure we shall stop production and make this guys own frame. Then we will get back to production" Then the frame then gets flown in from the far east (many many pennys) or it takes 8 weeks to be shipped into the country. That is customer service that is. mods
The frames look really good! Not to sure about the colours though, surely if you can have custom geo, you could choose you colour? This is starting to sound pretty good

26inch
Dont know I could trust magnesium and a frame, spose it depends what alloy is used. Surprised no one has mentioned them denting as mag is usually pretty brittle, i doubt the brake threads would last very well either. I agree with onza that someone would prob have done it before but id like to be prooved wrong as it sounds intresting.
Bionic Balls
to be honest...i wouldn't be surprised if onza have already done it...they seem to try alot of weird and crazy ideas!! well someone has to?!
Greetings
Well apparently the rims are fine. What i'd be worried about is how you weld a frame when it cracks.
Mod Man Leo
Well apparently the rims are fine. Joe@Onza
We have done it, When you mix Magnesium into alloy all that you do is make the tubing very thin. Hence the weight difference. We have even worked with Scandium frames, All that happens is that your weld points become thiner. If these frame comes out and is the same price quoted and they don't break, than hats off. They surely will sell a bucket load.
