Krisboats
but you need a mac to work on if you want to make a virus for a mac. and as macs are only owned by fanboys and complete noobs*, the virus maker would have to buy a mac. and then he'd become a fanboy and not make the virus. Ha ha, funny theory Ever seen that website, smashmyxbox.com? I can imagine someone doing something like that, promising to buy a mac with the money and write a virus for it and all the l33t pc owners chip in like 50p each and he gets enough money to make one. Guess the authorities won't have to look far to find however made the next mac crippling virus. Edited August 3, 2007 by Krisboats
Janson
but then one of the million mac blogs would find the site, and then macrumors would report on it and then steve jobs would invite to a keynote and all the fanboys would wet their trousers, and then people would leak the beta version of the virus and then they would make a dashboard widget out of it and then it'll be all for nothing!bored at work. it's a friday. Token
I've never met anyone who uses ZoneAlarm and feels they've needed to use anything else. It's even better when my serial runs out in 51,807 days.I've got 4 viruses in Quarentine, I don't think 4's bad considering the amount of pirate software I've got. Charlie Jennings
One day someone will write one just to piss all the mac users off because they think they are safe. Then as soon as one person does it and people see how much press coverage there is because "the mighty macs got infected" there'll be others trying for the same glory. Its just a matter of time really.Mac's currently have no viruses. PC's currently have about 117,000 viruses. Get writing.Anyway. people will just report it and Apple will do a system update and fix it.

Mac OS X and most Linux distributions are pretty much uninfectable because you need give executables the permission to run then run it since things can't start on their own in Linux. Also, the virus shouldn't do a lot of damage since every part of the hard drive is protected except for you "home" folder and there's no way to change stuff in the stuff that runs the compy except if you open a terminal you need to type like sudo, gksu or su before a command to give you access to that protected part of the hard drive...I'm talking for Linux because that's what I know, but I'm pretty sure it's the same for OS X. poopipe
None and never have in 10 years+ of using a pc. you really should try it - there's nothing quite like the thrill of thinking you're going to lose a years worth of uni work you haven't backed upAnyway. people will just report it and Apple will do a system update and fix it.last time there was a publicly known serious security problem with macOS apple took over a year to even admit there was a problem - I'm not even sure they did fix it to be honest, I think they just waited for OSX . I know that there is no auto running files such as .exe's but surely there s a way to create a virus for OSX? If there isn't then why doesn't everyone use it? We lost 1000 Family photos on Windows because of viruses. Why dont Microsoft do the same as apple as in the system, they have copied everything apart from that in there latest pile of poo. I cant wait to see Surface. They will sell millions .
Janson
Because Windows is a COMPLETELY different operating system altogether. So many things are different underneath the GUI, which in Vista is very pretty looking and probably very functional, much like OSX.There are so many things that Windows can do that OSX can't, and there is lots more software made for Windows users. Also, normal PCs can't run osx. If they could, I'm pretty sure more people would use it, but if PC users really want, they can just get unix/linux, which is what osx is built upon. Tomm
if PC users really want, they can just get unix/linux, which is what osx is built upon.Yeah but OS X is totally different to linux. Whereas OS X is made to be easy to use, EVERYTHING in linux is a pain in the arse. FACT. I'm sure that with a spare few days you could probably get used to it and work out ways of using it properly, but every time I've tried Linux (about 4 times now) I've always one problem I couldn't sort out (Either sound, network, mouse) and had to go back to Windows. Whereas OS X just works straight out of the box.
tomturd
http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/art...macosxleap.html looks like a mac virus to me..0 on mine. Well, as far as I know - it still works, I don't have a virus scanner so I'm just assuming really I'm careful with what I download, occasionally install a virus scanner, find nothing, then get rid of it again. Charlie Jennings
I'm not saying look I'm a mac user and windows sucks and I will never use it because I know what you mean you can just download the first thing you see on the internet and it will be compatible. At the end of the day it is what you use it for. If you use it for surfing, chatting, Video editing, photoshopping.... Get a mac. If you make Access databases or type essays in word. Get Windows.Or if you prefer the uniqueness of Vista. get thatI use mac's because like to be different, the quality of the actual hardware is superb, one of my hobbies is design, Video editing, Tech Support (if you ever need it) are awesome (im not racist at-all but they are mostly english people. so they are easier to understand) and i like the Apple logo Because Windows is a COMPLETELY different operating system altogether. Then installing stuff is the other problem, well Ubuntu solves it with an application that lists some 22 000 free applications and it's as easy as clicking it and the program downloads it and installs it on it's own...Well the fact the OS X works straight out of the box is a bit of an understatement, it only has to work with a handful of computers... And apparently certain PCs can run OS X, but they are quite few.
