RobinJI
Spray lube + double disc is a baadd combination. Surely Monty would know this, leading the whole double disc thing and all.Looks like its nothing special at all, like said, anything like chainsaw blade oil, or even just Finishline dry lube if you don't wanna get the stuff all over the place. Finishline do a wax one too which evaporates to leave a wax coating all over the chain which is pretty funky.
Greetings
Got that with a consignment a couple of days ago as a gift, haven't used it yet, didn't even know what it was for.Bare in mind that Monty doesn't make parts/accessories for street trials. It's probably a spray for people who ride lots of natural in all weather conditions.
basher
Im guessing there will be other products like it, but not many as it isnt like a conventional lube. It seems a good idea especially for in hot countrys where the floor is dry and dusty and dust and dirty will stick to normal chain lube on your chain. So it is a good idea i think. Its only a bad combination if your silly enough to use the spray near the disk if you put the lube ect on at the cranks end then you dont get it all over your disk or rim. ogre
get a big can of gt85 probably the same stuff only cheaper (i'm right thinking gt85 is the one that leaves a layer of lube after it's dry aren't i ?)
Guest
It's VERY useful on motorbikes, I use spray grease all the time on my motorbike chain, but yeh, it's a bit overkill for the trials bike, I think i've oiled my chain once, and actually wiped most of the oil off afterwards..... If not, you might be right.i'm not sure says summert about teflon on the can but nothing about coating it. mehTeflon-Plus dry lube has synthetic oils to set up dry and clean while keeping Teflon particles in suspension Edited July 23, 2007 by ogre
willy wonka
It's the same stuff as WD40? If not, you might be right.GT85 took over WD40 so yeah, its the same
Muel
GT85 is still made?! I have both because GT85 has a lower oil content and is good for polishing stuff, WD40 is better for lubricating stuff. It does lubricate, but doesn't stick all the shit to your chain which will wear it out quicker.
eskimo
WD40 a lube? Pah
AdamR28
WD40 and GT85 are both pants as a lube... The Monty Chain Spray is similar to the Finish Line Dry Wax someone mentioned above, works great, certainly better than *insert random household oil*. The idea, as Hudson said, is that you spray it on wet, the solvent evaporates and this leaves a dry waxy coating on your chain which doesn't attract dust and crap. Pretty sure it says exactly that on the site actually... haha, sorry for repeating myself.Ads
Token
GT85 contains Teflon where as WD40 doesn't, WD40 is a water dispersant for freeing up seized bolts or chains because it penetrates. GT85 does a similar thing but I think it lubricates better because of the Teflon (which is non-stick an slippery).edit: anyone know how a dry wax would lubriacte your chain? Can't imagine it being very slippery. Edited July 23, 2007 by Scopse
AdamR28
Doesn't need to be slippery, all it needs to do is provide a barrier between the two metal surfaces - if you plastic-coated your chain that would work amazingly, it's just it wouldn't stay put very long... Because the amount of sand you chain collects at that place is unreal; it can lead to your chain snapping, too - as Stan found out ...Cheers,Joe.
