Rear Maggie And Disc

Hey,

I was just wondering if it was possible to run a rear Maggie and a rear disc run the same lever? Because with the 05-06 levers of Maggie's you have the bleed screw piece, would it work if you had a barbed fitting in there running down to the disc caliper and the Maggie running as normall?

Sorry if its a stupid question i would just like to know if it would work, if if there are ways to make it work.

Cheers Connor

The same size of piston is now pushing two times the liquid so its going to be less strong in the long run.

If you could somehow set up a cable disk with a maggie or maybe a vee with a hydro disk then that might work.

Well, actually due to the principles of hydraulics it would have a higher mechanical advantage, but the downside of this would be that the lever would feel spongy as hell, and the breaks would retract the same amount, which when using a disc and a maggie could be very bad, as in say a disc retracts 1mm, and a maggie 3mm (exaggeration), they would retract half the amount, so 0.5mm and 1.5mm, this would then be spread across the 2 calliper setups evenly (assuming they had the same amount of friction in them which they wouldn't) so they would both retract 1mm, meaning a shitty set-up disc and a constantly rubbing maggie. And like I said, the frictions would be different, so they would retract at different rates, more than likely meaning the disc would retract MORE than the maggie, just exaggerating the problem I just mentioned a minute ago.

The other major problem would be that you'd have to find a mineral oil closed system disc to nick the calliper off of. Good luck with that one.

So basically, yeah, good idea, but if you were set on running 2 hydraulic breaks it would be alot easyer to run either 2 maggies (above and bellow the stays) or 2 discs, (one on each side of the wheel). But both would need custom made massive master cylinders or motorbike break levers, which really aren't cheep.

Or as mentioned, mechanical breaks would be a hell of a lot easier!
