Own Your Own Company, Or Have Done? Look In!

Hay all,

I'm in the need for a little bit of experience help!

I am currently in the process of seriously considering setting up my own eBay shop, now I want to contact a specific company to make them aware that I want to distribute there products in the UK (there currently isn't an distributer in the UK) , I quite frankly have no idea what to say other than I'm interested and how much will it cost. Will someone with a wee bit more experience than me give me a few pointers in what I should actually say/do to make it apparent that I am very much serious and am willing to invest time to make it successful. I was thinking the likes of tarty, trials uk, select or anyone with any experience in the matter could maybe give me a few pointers! As my current email looks like this:

Dear whom it may concern,

Hello, my name is William Wearing, I am currently looking into starting my own shop in the UK, specializing in fish eye lenses for still and video cameras. I would be very excited at the idea of being able to distribute your lens in the UK as there are no other distributors as of present and I would like to be the first.

As you can see not to pro...

Edit: The reason for my wanting to do so is myself along with many other people I've spoke to are not to happy with ordering lenses and the like from lets say Honk Kong (various reasons why), and I realised that If I were to start up a small business in the UK, people would be more attracted to buying from me, especially if I were to match the costs of imports (which I would). Now I am after feedback off everyone to this idea, as obviously it wont be just trials riders that will be attracted but I know alot people use fish eye adapters.

I know and accept that this will be no easy feet. But like I say am willing to put the time and effort in to make this successful.

Any help will be taken very seriously!

Thank you.

Willis.

Without a track record of running a business that you can show them, I would talk about your strength in being a keen photographer in touch with what the UK market is looking for. Tell them that from the market research you've done there is a great opportunity for both them and you here and that you are the best person to make a success of this niche in the quickest time possible whilst being a joy to work with.

You must enquire about their minimum order quantities, postage arrangements their price list for distributors, and whether it would be possible to have exclusivity on UK supply (worth being cheeky, it may pay off!)

You may find like me that at the beginning people don't even reply to your emails. It's the same for all of us though, and before long they'll be biting your hand off for you to carry their products!

Steve
