strelly
I was just wondering if there are many people who paddle as well as ride trials?Ive been kayaking about 6 years now and its always taken up most of my time, but since I started uni at nottingham I have stopped (no good rivers etc..) and started trials. Now trials has taken all my time and i hardly paddle any more, even with floods all over the country. Feel a bit guilty! Its mainly the fact that i can just pick up my bike, and ride for 1 miniute or 4 hours, any time. Kayaking always need much more planning, time and effort. Not really sure why i started this thread, i just feel like im giving up a large chunk of my life due to the ease of another sport!Heres a couple of pics of me for those interested:White Nile, UgandaFrench AlpsWhite Nile, UgandaCheersStrelly Edited July 17, 2007 by strelly
Tomm
That looks really cool. How 'good' do you have to be to do that sort of thing? I'm actually going kayaking on Friday. Only on a reservoir, mind
BONGO
White Nile, UgandaYou should get one of the oars with 2 ends mate. you'll be able to steer much better instead of getting inot a mess like this! If you'd had a double ended oar you'd have been able to stay out of the rough bits and keep safe in the shallows!

MadChikken
Used to kayak bout 4/5 years ago, really want to get into it again but theres nowhere local that I know of that does it Never did anything quite that crazy, but spent a fair few weekends up in wales finding some white water etcIts not the cheapest sport 2 get into either I guess, and as u say it takes a lot of planning to get places and to arrange things!M@

If you'd had a double ended oar you'd have been able to stay out of the rough bits and keep safe in the shallows!Ha yea too right, i was half way down thinking 'S**T why didn't i bring my trusty two bladed paddle?!' But thinking about it, i did break those paddles a few days later....and keep safe in the shallows! They were actually pretty dangerous due to pesky alligators/crocodiles(they look the same)What was scarier was when i hard to run most of that river with 2 sets of paddles (my mate lost his set further upstream due to a near death experience and we found them floating around about 6km downstream!)Nice little fact about that river for you all: The flow rate ranges between 250,000 and 500,000 cumecs. Thats cubic meters per second. Its so much water its unbelievable! Yea its a great sport which everyone seems to relate to, but as you progress the more you need to travel the world finding harder stuff (because UK is rubbish for decent rivers).Strelly Edited July 18, 2007 by strelly
dirtbiker
Funnily enough I started kayaking when i went to Nottingham uni and haven't done much (any) riding since as it seems to take up most of my time. Still not any good mind although the uni club are a good bunch of guys and the trips to Wales and Yorkshire are enough to keep me amused when it comes to the wet stuff....
