Luke Rainbird
Just found this on OTN, thought it might interest some of you http://observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=30076
King C
I just saw that too. I dont really see the piont to be honest. Far too much to go wrong and break, looks big and clumsy, and is going to be far heavier than any rim/disc brake already available but good work for trying. Muel
There are some strange people on that forum...Good idea though, I would have mounted the caliper closer to the frame though, but the hose would need a banjo fitting on it.
Greetings
Really impressed. It's great that people have the time, ideas and possibility to make such things.I think the Ruthless one is much stiffer, but this design clearly gets rid of drag caused by wheel movement or it not being perfectly straight. Mike W
Thats immense the power from that rotor mus me crazy :|mike W
PaRtZ
lol if it actually works then kudos to him, but I think its a bit ott just to get more power out of a brake. I mean sure it could probably hold on alot of things, but so do most other brakes....

James Quigley
ermmm......One slight buckle in the wheel (or egg for that matter) and the brake's useless.
Davetrials
waste of time, get a decent magura vee, or standrad disc set up and i GURANTEE it'll be better than that will ever be.

Matthew_Gibson
How did he make the rotor? Out of old rotors and weld them? NOT SAFE??
Waynio
id love to use that, i think the lads pretty clever, to make it work with side to side movement of your wheel.obviously his next one will be lighter and different for a first effort thats a 10/10!!!! id use this system ALL day long if it works, which im pretty sure it would.i like how the people on OTN argue about a 24" sized rotor been shit on a hayes brake but great on other brakes? made me laughBring on the next prototype. who cares about the weight of it!!!! i would sacrifise weight for a brake i didnt have to grind all the time.Wayne. El Cristoff
ermmm......One slight buckle in the wheel (or egg for that matter) and the brake's useless.wouldn't the huge ass disk hold the wheel straight, preventing it from buckling?hub mounted disk's ***!? Jamie_Neal
I like the floating idea but I think there is room for improvement. Instead of floating the caliper on an arm which pivots about the mount on the frame it would be better if the caliper floated side to side (perpendicular to the disc) not in an arc. I know its a minor point but it could mean the disc pads don't hit the disc at 90 degrees which would give a spongier brake.I also think if the disc was more like the Ruthless one it would save a shed a fair bit of weight although it would be better if it was closer to the rim like the proto version.I think the ideal solution would be a mount lower on the seat than the standard magura mounts with a mount that allowed float perpendicular to the disc - would probably need Koxx or Deng to throw a shed load of money at it. I know he's trying to make it accessable as a retro fit product but I was thinking ideal world.Anyway - fair play, it looks really good as a proto. Far better than I could do.Jamie
James Quigley
Floating caliper.Ahh yes I can see it now (only looked quickly and thought it was the same as the older one floating around in cyberspace). It's a good idea, but as said there's nothing wrong with a Maggy that's well set up (I only grind about once or twice a year, a lot quicker job than designing a whole new brake)
poopipe
why do we not use hub brakes again?
