Samsung Vp-dc163 - Problem.

Just got this camcorder this morning, doesn't have a memory card or disc in it yet, but it's still possible to access the menu's etc without them.

Basically, when I turn it on, the LCD screen is just black, and the viewfinder is just white. I've been pressing all sorts of buttons, but it's not doing anything?

I've called Samsung customer services, and he gave me a number for their repair place. I called them, and I had some very dull sounding woman tell me I need to send it to their repair centre in Gatwick with £35 just so they can look at it!

I'm not sending it there! Not so some bloke can say 'Oh yeah, f**ked that is!' and send it back.

Payment is non-refundable unless I decide to go ahead with the repair, which will probably cost too much, and they'll say they've fixed something else on it, when they haven't.

All I want to know is what's causing it to do this? Has anyone else had this problem? - What did they do to solve it?

I need this for Saturday. :(

Press the panel opposite to the LCD in various places with your thumb. My dad had a similar problem with his LCD in a Sony camera. The cause was a bad connection, if you pressed the casing in the right place, the panel would turn on.

Don't know about the viewfinder. Does it record normally?

Tried poking and proding the screen a bit..doesn't seem to be doing much.

What would happen if I took it apart a bit? Just to look inside?

What's the chance of completley f**king it up if i do this?

Accoring to the guy I sold it off, it said in the description 'Faulty need repair'

I can honestly say I didn't see that anywhere. I read the whole description to see what the camera was like.

Balls. :(

He got a bum one because he didn't RTFD (description, instead of manual)

:P

I did read it though.

I can honestly say I did not see written anywhere that it was faulty and in need of repair.

I've contacted the seller asking for a full refund on this, just waiting for a reply.

Also rang Amazon to let them know about this. I did contact the seller via my e-mail account, but Amazon wanted me to do it through my Amazon account so that they have a record of the e-mails being sent.

So i've had to repeat myself.

Also rang Samsung customer support, and they were asking me to send it to their repair centre near Gatwick along with a £35.84 cheque, just so they can look at it!

Then if I want the repair done, they'll knock the £35.84 off the repair price. If I don't want the repair done, they keep the money, and I get the camera back.

Paid £95 for it.

Wondered why it was so cheap actually, they go for around £200 on eBay.

Might just pay for it to get repaired, does look like a decent camera.

Just wont be able to use it in Wales next week. :(

first off take it to a camera shop and get a quote for a repair job. If its minimal go for it but if its a lot, sod it - do it yourself

seriously. nbr andy sold me my first camera off here (and he clearly told me the sound wasn't working) so I got it cheap as chippys. Then I got fed up of not having sound eventually, took it to a shop and they said £50 repair job. so i thought sod that - and had a go myself. Turned out a wire had been unplugged.... plugged it back in voila. Some £50 repair job eh?

open it up!

Gunna take it to a camera repair shop near Milton Keynes tomorrow.

See if they can do it..

Read some forums about Sony camcorders having this problem, and the CCD panels had broke...

Thanks for the help!
