Tomm
I'm thinking I will probably leave my car off the road since I don't really need it at the moment. It'll be kept in a garage for probably around 9 months, maybe a bit longer. What things should I do to make sure it'll be OK when I return to it? The only thing I know is that you're not supposed to leave the handbrake on (use chocks instead) since the brake pads can corrode onto the calipers or something.Anything else? Full tank of petrol ok? Tony Harrison
I'd have thought it would be ok. Just get in there and start it once a month and let it run for a few minutes.
nmt_oli
Anything else? Full tank of petrol ok?petrol is a bit confusing. if you have an empty tank you can get condensation rusting the inside of the tank, if you leave it full the petrol can degrade so you need to drain the tank. after 9 months you should be ok though, our vans been sat with half a tank for a yeah or so and still starts.I'd have thought it would be ok. Just get in there and start it once a month and let it run for a few minutes.not too little time though, gotta warm the exaust up otherwise condensation will rot it from the inside out. petit_pablo
Ive left mine for a 18 months on the drive with a cover over it. Didnt drain anything out. Ive recently changed the belts/filters etc and it started 1st time with a jump start.
Danny
Put a bit more air in the tires to avoid flatspots.Ive also heard of putting a tray of cat litter inside the car to absorb any damp inside.
anzo
Keep it running for 20 minutes or so every so often. When a car is left not moving it does more damage than using it normally!1. Keep it running ever so often2. Don't put the handbrake on, leave it in 1st/reverse depending on the decent3. Keep an eye on the tyres, not only flatspots but cracks!4. Pump the brakes every so often to prevent the calipers locking upDECLARE IT OFF ROAD!
