Plasma /lcd Just Curious

Basically wanted a nice little tv for a while now and wanted to have a pretty simple room so was looking to maximise space and just for the cool beans factor get a thin flat screen TV.

http://www.somucheasier.co.uk/ed-plasma-lc...difference.html

I found this link and could basically do with the facts/statements backing up.

seems like you don't get much extra to LCD for your money, and i wouldn't be using it as a monitor so no worry about burn in etc.

Was looking at Samsung plasma 50" the other day second hand for £650 which i was extremely tempted by if i had another £200 but i dont . .

Any recommendations /info would be reeet' handy

cheers m'dears

From what I understand, Plasma technology is better for creating black tones - I.e. the blacks are very black compared to a normal CRT or LCD. This is why they have a good contrast ratio compared to LCDs. They also use a lot of power, though.

Not sure what it's like now but about a year ago when I was looking at TVs I found that cheaper plasma screens looked a lot shitter than similarly priced LCD ones.

When you got up to the top of the range stuff they were very groovy indeed but the lower end stuff was f**king awful.

Playing games = LCD

Not playing games = Plasma

If you are playing games on a plasma they generally look horrible compared to the crisp image of an LCD. Also with the burning effect which is not desirable.

Watching films on a Plasma screen though looks 10000x better than on LCD beacuse it has better black levels and the blacks/greys do not look washed out.

Cant images get burned into plasma screens if theyre on for long enough? I've heard of people who owned plasmas and the images from certain adverts were burned, or whatever, into the screen because they were on so much?

I knew someone who managed that, he left his Xbox on the menu and went out the gay! It got well badly burnt.

LCD all the way, they are crisper, better on energy, clearer, and don't burn.

There's not a great deal of difference these days.

Screen life and clarity is similar on both now.

I sell them on my site - the Sharp LCD's are one of my fave's at the moment.

Anyway, I'm cheaper than most other sites so compare prices and if you want a deal, let me know

Cheers for the advice everyone, never knew you had a business mike site looks good but ideally after second hand due to not having a steady income of income atm.

just another issue looking on flea bay it seems theres a hell of a lot of broken plasmas , is this due to clumsiness? poor quality of products or just that theres more plasmas about therefore more breakages etc?

even saw a 50" samsung the other week, nearly bought it, got relisted and this time round its £200 cheaper as its broke? hmmmm

It could be because larger plasma's are older than larger LCD's - 40" LCD's are relatively new on the market as opposed to 42" Plasma's that have been around for almost 7 years.

Older generations of Plasma were also quite unreliable - newest generation ones tend to be fine :)
