Fish-Finger-er
i kinda agree, but as a 'BT Engineer' i know how vague that title is.I'm one, and i know posties do a lot more than me. But then i know engineer's who do a lot more than soldiers and firemen!!! I know lads who go up poles in -10, and break the ice in manholes to fix cables, then others who sit at a desk and use a laptop, and they are all still BT engineers on EXACTKY the same pay. (BT pays staff on grades. No matter what job, if you are that grade, you get that wage)I don't know enough about the strike to comment though!Bongoyea, wasnt on about the lazy cnut's like you bongo, let me guess, your the bloke who comes in for new tyres, on the days when it rains?? (its amazing. when its raining, the workshop gets so much better). but yea, i was on about the people on the pole cats, the cabling vehicles and the hoists, 30 foot in the air, with sideways rain. no thanks. likewise the people who where working on monday as the floods took full effect, and couldnt see the box tops to put the covers back on. id much rather be delivering letters and emptying postboxwa than doing that. as for the squaddie thing, squaddies a bit different as my mate whos just finished his 1st tour of duty was saying the other day, the pays bollox. not absolute bollox, but its not good. but he gets a big pension fairly early on. he also has very little outgoings, even when "back home" i.e living in barracks etc. hes on less than what ill be on when im qualified, but he has no keep to pay/rent to pay(would say mortgage, but its not like hes getting his own house doing this), no bills(other than phone contract), no need to travel to work, all meals, all clothes for working in provided etc. doesnt sound like much, but it all mounts up. to the point where he can just live at home, squander his 6 months pay from when he was in a combat zone (which he didnt touch while away). on a deposit for a house in the next month. hes then gunna rent it out, and allow the rent from it too pay the mortgage, and use his monthly pay to make maximum overpayments every month, cos hes got bugger all to spend his money on, other than booze, cars(Altho he doesnt really need one, and only uses it when back home, and being in the army, gets sper cheap insurance, and as he doesnt do many miles, fuel doesnt cost him bugger all) and a house. Si-man
Squadies get less then most jobs and cant strike.Think its £1.20 an hour they get, but thats for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.Thats what jays bro said anyway.

Fixed Pantsâ„¢
Yeah, squaddies get their wages, 220 odd a week when you're just coming into it (got 3 friends who are 16 and going into the forces) and they get everything else, like food, accomodation etc paid for them so the 220 odd is just disposable income. Krisboats
From what i can tell from numerous postie friends, its to do with them having been offered 2.5% wage increase, and they thought it wasn't enough. The union gave them a little ballot to decide whether they should go on strike or decline the offer. The majority said strike, despite a fair few of the workers being happy with the 2.5% increase and not wanting to strike or decline.Privately run postal offices were open, so ones that sell random things like magazines and stuff as well as post services. Collections also happened today, only slightly earlier than scheduled and there was just one for the whole day.A fair amount of workers actual went into work regardless of the strike... fair do's i guess.Postal services will be back on track in an hour and 15 minutes, so everything'll be back to normal... just with a delay due to the post having been slowed down. Should be right as rain again by tuesday. So yeah, you'll all be receiving post again tomorrow, just if your expecting something... it may be a day or two later than expected. Dr. Nick Riviera
What happens if we do, send the postmen at them?we send the squaddies at them, but on a day to day basis, postmen probably pose more use to everyone.
Has anyone seen my shoe?
Yes they are more useful on a day to day basis.Id much rather lose the postmen then the armed forces though!

manuel
I blame Rowan...I've said it once on the forum already, and numerous times elsewhere, but it's all down to Rowan Johns...thanks....well the score is RM have offered a 2.5% pay rise on basic pay (below inflation) with a phantom shares scheme (loads of strings...) and have got a load of cost cutting slasher ideas for the buisness plan for the next few years - job losses and general decline .... this is after a 4 billion squid loan for modernisation from the government......much of the problem is an agreement RM made for competition - all the competitors SORT the mail (and can undercut RM in price - because they are so old school) and force us to deliver it.... so RM is losing contracts willy nilly.anyway - back on strike action.we went on strike yesterday (personally i think it was wrong RM arent budging(also - i can really see that something HAS to change - I work about 2 hours less than i should every day...)) and will continue to do 1 day strikes throughout the summer... until an agreement is made.any mail that is scheduled for delivery on strike days will be deemed to have failed. RM get fined for this - but importantly once only. this means it goes to the back of the pile .... it gets fed back into the system as and when it can be, probably over today and next week. BONGO
your post office has nothing to do with receiving a parcel. It goes to the depot, not the post office. Any way, even if it's the depot you meant, it's clearly not shit as you go what you ordered!!!
eskimo
himy mate orderd me soem profile springs of tarty yesterday and i was hoping theyd come on saturday for the weekend so i could ride,i herd about the post office's going on strike?does this mean im not going to get my springs for at least another week? Can't be bothered to read the posts before. But, it all depends on who actually decides to strike. Some of the mail turned up today even the lorry drivers were suppost to be on strike today. What a shit day it was. Anyhow i got a weeks holiday.
