Sutty22
I'm treating myself to a new frame soon and have decided to have a go at singlespeed. I never ever change gear and because I ride at the beach a lot my cassette and mech constantly have sand grinding away at them.I am using middleburns (square taper) at the moment and really like the cranks. I'm looking at upgrading to either the Middleburn RS7 super pro trials set (16t) or the middleburn/heatsink set (18t). I'd be interested in hearing peoples opinions on either set up. It's a toss up between the extra clearance of the super pro's (if any) and the ability to run a 1/8" chain with the heatsink.I'm also curious as to whether people prefer ISIS bottom brackets. Are there any advantages/disadvantages over square taper? If they're miles better I may as well upgrade all at the same time.Any advice/opinions would be appreciated. Cheers, Sutty
Tommy d
Yeah go for the singlespeed says me. Gears are just extra hassle!Depending on frame choice I'd say horizontal dropouts if possible, less stuff to break. If your cranks are good, why are you changing? I've got those and they've been working a treat for years.I haven't ridden either of the other setups so I can't really comment... my instincts tell me Heatsink if you are getting new ones...And I'm a square taper man myself. mat hudson
square taper is where it's at man, might aswell just get yourself a new bash... i've had the 22t and am currently running the 16t however i'd go for the heatsink, just going to be easier if the cog wears out! Sutty22
Never really thought about changing just the bash. Cheers buddy, you've just saved me £100. The bash, sprocket and bolts are £45 from heatsink, happy days. I can get my long awaited front tyre and "coustsink" pads now. Cheers guys.
