Phatmike
On my f3.5 lens I really miss the extra stop to 2.8 sometimes, and having paid so much money for a lens I would hope it would be 2.8.Obviously they are fantastic lenses with amazing IQ and sharpness, but you would think that being a top of the line lens they would make it a 2.8.But the 17-40 was designed as a full frame landscape lens, where you'd often be using much smaller apertures anyway. They do make a similar lens, the 16-35mm f/2.8, which, as mentioned is more expensive.Same reason they make four varieties of the 70-200mm lens (f/4, f/4 IS, f/2.8, f/2.8 IS), the 2.8's are more expensive and heavier, so you have to think about whether you can justify the extra weight/cost when buying a lens. Also, due to the difference in sensor size, FF gives roughly 1 2/3 stop (f/2.8 to say f/5!) less depth of field, and with the same technology, the same improvement in noise control. Which also means there's less need for lenses quite as fast.(btw f/2.8 - f/3.5 isn't "one stop", it's 2/3 of a stop. (f/2.8 - f/3.2 - f/3.5 - f/4.0))It sorta bugs me that Canon's L lenses are f4.0, that would piss me off.Oh, and obviously not all L's are f/4.0! That said, FF sensors also have lower noise, so a push on the ISO wouldn't be noticed.

Dan Clark
The bastards that are Joe Maher and Rob P have persuaded me through their photos that I need a 10.5 fish now. Anyone have anything to say about them?
Mike Deere
I'd have to agree, I miss my old 10.5mm every day.Right now though, I'm praying that Nikon's new body due for announcement in Autumn will be full frame. If it is I'll be buying the 14mm f/2.8 to accompany it.
Dan Clark
I'm pretty sure it's either been announced that it's full frame or theres incredibly substantial rumors that say that.Either way I would be surprised if it isn't full frame or very close to. JonMack
Yeah I've wanted one for ages, would have bought one sooner if my loan would have let me, but I'm getting one in 3 weeks for my birthday, which should be awesome. Can't wait.

If not I'll just keep it and have both. Edited August 15, 2007 by MonsterJ
Davetrials
depends on the price, it have to be cheap, cos it doesnt really have enough space for equipment, im looking at the match maker which is perfect u see.
JonMack
Well I can fit my laptop, 3 flashguns, camera with lens on, spare lens, ebay triggers and more in there. How much is "cheap", I dunno what to ask really, its a £100+ bag, but I'd let it go for the right price.
