Reece B
well the other day i got a middle burn 16tooth bash, and after reading on here, i find that 16:14 is the norm.but ive switched from 22:17 which is pretty hard compared to 16:14, and i cant seem to get up stuff as easy:Sso ive tried 16:13 which is ment to be like 22:17 right? i cant decide if i like 16:14 or 16:13, i like 16:14 it make the bike feel flicky but i cant ride as well.16:13 i can get up walls but the bike feels like a tank:Sargh i just need some opinions and abit more riding with the two set ups i guesscheers Reece Edited June 25, 2007 by Reecerazor
basher
Which ever you choose you will just get ust to after a while and the downsides you stated will more than likely go away once your ust to them.
Luke Rainbird
Ok, so, you've come from riding 22:17, which, as you've also said, is a relatively hard gearing (22/17 = 1.29, 33.65 gear inches)16:14 = 1.14, 29.71 gi, which is a fair bit lighter than your previous ratio, explaining the way it's flickier, but also why you feel it's harder to get up stuff now16:13 = 1.23, 32.00 gi, still lighter than your previous gearing, but far closer, and will make ups a bit easier again (whilst losing a bit of 'flick' remember though)16:12 = 1.33, 34.67 gi, higher than 22:17, but a touch closer than 16:13I'd suggest playing with 16:13 and 16:12, and finding which of the two you feel more comfortable with. Chuck one on, and ride with it for a while, then you'll have a better idea if you do want to change at all or not Hopefully that hasn't been too confusing, but if you want anything clarified just shout

hugh_b
i know some top top riders that run 16:14 and they can ride amazing (as in uci worldcup riders). What length cranks are you running? This can affect how the gear feels for example i'm running 18:15 with 175mm cranks but a mat of mine is running 170mm cranks with 16:14 gearing, makes it about the sameish. -Hugh

Reece B
well i found, 16:14 to easy, made every thing seem really hard, well just ups:Pive had a play with 16:13 today and i like it, im running 170 arms. although i do like 16:14 for front wheel stuff and gaps but getting up is just a nightmare lol!
