What Drill Bit For 6m Helicoil?

Hi.

What drill bit size will I have to use to drill up the hole, before i use the special thread tap supplied with the 6M HeliCoil repair kit? Can I use standard 6mm or 6,5mm, or do I have to use some special size? An eBay store said 1/4" (6,35mm) was the right size. Has anyone got a size table?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, i did a helicoil on a 5mm hole(brake mounts) and i drilled it out with a 5.2mm drill bit. The helicoil kit i used had the chart and everything.. but i dont have it any more!

But 6.35mm sounds about right, if you have access to decent measuring devices (calipers, micrometers etc..) measure the outside of the helicoil, should be a gnats wing over the original hole size.

If in doubt do a test run on a scrap bit of metal with that 6.35mm bit and see how it taps, and if you have spare coils, whack one in and see how it does!

Sorry if thats confusing...
