poopipe
can anyone tell me how to make pics like this one on gimp 2.2 because i cant find how to do it thanks.it goes something like this...get all the pictures from the sequence, paste em all into the same image as layers and then rub out the bits you don't want to see with the eraser and selection tools. of course it's the gimp so the selection tools are complete gash compared to photoshop but you'll get there in the end. Tomm
I've never used GIMP but I understand it's basically just the same as photoshop. So you get your pictures which have to be taken in a special way (camera COMPLETELY still, on continuous drive). Then you load the pictures all into one GIMP window, on different layers. Choose one to have at the bottom which will also include the background etc. Then it's just a case of editing the other pictures on top of that in whatever way you want. The simplest way is probably to use the eraser on the above layers.

Danny
Isnt CS3 and all Adobe CS3 products still beta?Nope not any more. Fair enough if you've got £600 kicking about by all means buy it. Otherwise GIMP is pretty dam powerful.
sidehop
How good do you boys recon this software is, considering:1. I have never really done any photo editing,2. Am not looking for the best pictures in the world.3. And i would just like to make some funky shizz when am board like today.Oh yeah, i am downloading Gimp 2.2 now - hence why i am asking

The only downside is it's not the easiest program in the world to use, but that's only because it's so ridiculously powerful.
sidehop
Tomm, I think i may need some more sugestions for editing software and links please i am having problems with ''GTK+'' and not being able to get the right programmes - Dam Windows Vista, Its tell me i need a certain version of it but its not on the download page.Anymore good programmes and links would be very very usefull. Thanks manIGNORE THAT ^^^^I've got the GIMP, Now just to work it Edited June 24, 2007 by sidehop
Tomm
Well, there are other options like Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop Elements. They still cost money, but they're nowhere near as much as Photoshop. I like Picasa (by google). It's free and it's a great little program. Pretty basic, but you can do some adjustments to your pictures if that's all you're after.I can't really comment on the GTK issues, I know some open source stuff (like GIMP) can be pretty difficult to install etc. I don't even know if it's Vista-compatible. I assume it is. It will just be a case of installing the correct stuff, but it's never easy!P.S. Downloading photoshop is BAD.

poopipe
get caught and probably wont be good thoughThey don't care as long as you're not using it commercially - it just generates more users. Up until CS1 the security consisted of a serial number and nothing else.oh, and for the record - version 7 ***!!!

Tomm
Yeah, CS2 is a fair bit better. Not used CS3 though (Or CS1 for that matter). I use quite a lot of stuff like the smart sharpen and various filters that were new in CS2, so I wouldn't like to downgrade. Photoshop 7 is really snappy though - my comp occasionally struggles with CS2 if I do a lot, I imagine CS3 would be worse. But if you've got an old computer, Photoshop 7 is probably where it's at. Plus until you use the newest version, you don't know what you're missing - I doubt I could go back to PS7 without getting really pissed off

CS2 is fine - just like 7 but slowerCS3 looks ok but I've only had the briefest play on it so far. seriously though - what's missing from 7 that you actually use? (ignoring the embarassing tga/alpha channel export thing )
Tomm
RAW support with all the camera specific stuff like lens correction etc, Smart sharpen, all the spot-healing jazz. The HDR tool I would use if it worked. But I take your point, there's not THAT much difference. Probably not £150 of difference for me, anyway Having said that, most of that stuff can be done in Lightroom, so perhaps lightroom + PS 7.0 would be a good compromise.
