Right, ive been getting quoted about £3000 at the cheapest on insurance for a 306 TD 1.9, so that can feck right off. What about a 1999 Clio? Group 2 insurance.

The 1.5 diesel 106 is an abomination. Good on fuel but a complete tank and not very nice to drive at all. If you're really skint, well its got 4 wheels and a roof and will get you about, but you'll soon want shot of the thing.

My first car was a 1.5D Pug 106, had both good and bad experiences with them.

Good - Insurance as a named driver on dads insurance was only £200 with LivVictoria, considering I had little/no money at 17, £200 was brilliant.

Fuel economy was excellent. I now drive a 1.2 petrol new Clio and i want a diesel sooo bad. Never had a problem with the engine itself, started first time always.

Bad - As said, engine was perfect, yet had problems with driveshafts. Parts to get problem fixed were expensive! Sunroof eventually leaked slightly after a year. Electrics were a bit crap. Simple jobs like changing a brake light bulb etc turned into a major job - Mechanism for screwing the bulbs in was so crap and fiddley.

After owning her for a year and a half, i gave her a service and put the car on autotrader. Heres the good bit - Bought the car for £600, sold it for £850. Score!

Well its ok because its only a 1.2 engine. £20 fuel will get me almost exactly 200miles. That doesn't sound bad but considering my 106 diesel would get me nearer 300miles to £20, i miss that :(

How many MPG is that roughly, do you know? Are there any other little diesels I should look for?
