First Car Wtf

YUSSSS. I should be driving soon. As soon as I know what cars to start looking for. I'm 18, so obviously its gotta be 1.2 or under, or maybe a 1.6 diesel? I have no idea. I'll be using it a lot (to and from blackpool 3 - 5 days a week plus driving to rides and stuff) so its gotta be shit hot reliable and get about 1,000,000 MPG.

Basically, I need a little car thats reliable/economical and could handle 2 or 3 bikes on the back on a rack. I've been thinking..

-Corsa

-Fiesta

-Honda Civic

-Punto

-Bravo

-Mitsubishi Colt

-Polo

But I have no idea which to get, which are better cars and cheaper on insurance. Somebody wanna give me a hand?! Is there any other cars I should be looking at? probably looking at spending no more than £1500 on the car itself.

Cheers!

306 D-turbo. Super cheap to buy, super cheap to insure (same group as 1.4 petrol, group 5) and even cheaper to run.

Plus they run for fooking ages, easily hit 200k miles with more to give.

Look at other topics on here too, been asked and discussed a few times. :)

Christ, 2 replies in about 5 seconds! Nice one! I really have no idea about models and stuff, or cars in general really. I just know of the little ish cars that would be good first timers, thats it.

Sorry for making another thread on it, I did a quick search beforehand but didn't find anything. Musn't have been thorough enough!

-Corsa - Insurance will be masively high because they are all driven by chavvy lads, My friend is paying £1500 odd on his 1.4 and he has been driving a year, with no points ect

-Fiesta - nice little cars, not your usual, very easily and nicely modified but its a ford....

-Honda Civic - Great cars llove them to bits, my first car is a honda civic BUT...They will absoloutely KILL you on insurance, i have was quoted £3000 exactly with liverpool victoria with no mods diclared!

-Punto - Fab cars, very nice to drive, very nippy, dont have a clue what insurance is like but my mums paying £230 odd on a .9 turbo, but she is 43

-Bravo - I would assume that these would be relativly the same as a Punto

-Mitsubishi Colt - My mates older brother had one, was forever repairing it but i would assume the insurance was cheap

-Polo - Great little cars, easily modified cheaply insured even the new ones! I was quoted £900 odd on my old MK4 with -40 ats classics and a powerflow exhaust. so great little cars and cheap to run. I would say get the polo!

But I have no idea which to get, which are better cars and cheaper on insurance. Somebody wanna give me a hand?! Is there any other cars I should be looking at?

Like i say Get the polo! or a MK2 Golf, i was quoted under a grand on that aswell!

i jhave to disagree mate! Puntos are great little cars, I poo pooed them at first, then i got one and it is fapping ace!

this was at 17 as a first driver :)

i think you can get 1.5 CRX's cant you? If you was to get the 1.6 Vtec CRX you will be absoloutely Mullered on insurance!

EDIT

If you want MPG, get a mini, to a full tank i got 609 odd miles and a full tank is some thing like £30

Or get a desil punto, and the car only being a 1.2 it wont be such a slag uphills ect :) It wont be rapidly fast but unless you fancy forking out thousands on insurance, nothing will be!

EDIT AGAIN

oily you nut job! tis about time you put a decent engine in it. this lil run around is taking a turn towards being a serious car!

mine on the other hand is for sale. 500 bucks to anyone that wants a mk2 golf gti 8v or buy my mini instead.

new car please

Thats curly freek in the VW thread, he has his 8v golf up for sale.

At that pice it seems rather fair i think

I'm with Si. You'll not beat a 306.

Look nice too.

Yep, the first CRX's were 1.5. I've got a 92' 1.6i and it's performance is pretty amazing as is everything else. AC would be nice though :P

I don't think it's worth paying so much more for a Vtec just for extra torque, +20bhp and more power at low revs. Maybe i just have a neutral attitude to cars, for instance i can't understand why some of you tune your cars to +300bhp and just use them on the road?

Mk3/4 polo Or a Mk2 Golf wihought a doubt.

My mates older brothers car was a 306. he was paying like £1800 on insurance though?

Oh i dont know my CRX's to be honest Inur! Love them though, i think its the rear screen and seats in the back which do it for me!

the point of 300+BHP road cars is.... you can get to the speed limit faster!

so whats wrong with that, if her dads got the money why can't he buy her a nice car. if your dad had the money you'd want him to buy you one wouldn't you. even if she can't drive it for shit, is it going to be better off being thrashed around by some bald willy whos having a midlife crisis and weants one to look young again.

radfax that must have been on tpft for the golf. no way will they insure you on such an old car comprehensive for under a grand.

i don't think it's the right thing to do. She doesn't have the knowledge of having to work for things if he just buys it for her from day one.

Still boss, but it's a lot nicer when you work towards something and earn your lifestyle.

Ford Ka!

+Great mpg on motorways, fun handling, piece of piddle to park,, i've easily got a mod a stock and two people inside, mush easier and cheaper to find parts for than a french car...

-Pre 2oo1 models need a bit of pushing to get any speed out of them having only 59 bhp, newer zetec models have an extra 10ish bhp and are a bit better

With pass plus my insurance (aged 18+0 no claims) is just over £1000 tpft, easily less than anything else in your list.

Definitely

Anyway, this is about the only time i'd ever recommend a french car, but yeah, i agree a 1.9d turbo 306 is a good car, apparently they look good too (i cant seem to get a boner over one like most people), they are economic (my cousin gets easily 50mpg without driving too carefully) and the engines last ages. My mums got the same engine in her 405 and its been fantastic, nastiest gearbox and clutch known to man (feeling wise), but then i'm used to german engineering now :P. Parts are easy and cheap to obtain at the scrappy, and most importantly, insurance is low for how quick the car is, compared to other cars that you could potentially get. Try not to get one with too many electric gobbins and you should be safe, as said before, the french are renowned for their dodgy wiring...

Don't get a ka unless you are a giant homosexual, and to feck if they are easier to get parts for, well at least around here, my local scrappies are 3/4 french cars! fiestas aren't so bad for the money

and definitely go diesal if you want to get any sort of respectable mpg, if you are a careful driver, you can say ahoy to over the 60mpg mark :)

fiesta all the way, get a zetec 1.25 or 1.4, i got a 1.4 as my first car and well nippy for wat it is, 2 people and 2 bikes easy as chuff. reliable as anything! done 20,000 in mine since iv had it is 85tho n still drives mint n i rag it everywhere. and plus if u ahve a bump in it or something does go wrong there cheap as chips and easy to repair.
