minitrialer
Right, time to start thinking about driving at Uni. I really want to drive at uni and have been driving since January. I am 17 and am driving a 1.2 fiesta which i am insured under my dads name. My Dad is giving me his old astra 1.7 diesel estate and the insurance for me by myself on that is like 2-2,500 grand and on my car its like £1000. I really want the estate because its diesel and massive. Does anybody have an idea of a car which costs up to 2 grand ISH and is diesel and quite large and fairly nice? Most importantly fairly low insurance. I was looking at old Passats with fairly high mileage for about 2,300 but the insurance KILLS me.Any ideas/help/money would be appreciated.Cheers! RobinJI
Golf, Astra and escort estates all come in 1.4l petrol's, which shouldn't be too bad. Can't think of any others right now. Might be worth checking out the mk3 Astra 5 doors, they're pretty roomy inside, half way to an estate.Erm... I recall getting a surprisingly low quote on my dads 1.9td 405 style estate, so maybe a 1.9 non-turbo one would be affordable? They're also mega reliable. Worth checking out anyway, and cheep as hell to buy.
PaRtZ
estates are the way forward When I bought my skoda felicia 1.9D estate i was 18. And im paying £1100 ish for my insurance under my own name. To be honest its ideal, I paid £750 for it, its great mpg wise and obviously "chucking the bikes in" becomes a literal phrase with it.go to www.parkers.co.uk and look on insurance groups. My felicia is group 4 so try to find something in that group or lower for a cheaply insured caroh and im with ecar
Simpson
I know that my sister couldnt have a car at uni, there was no parking, she lived like half a mile from the uni, theres bus routes run from halls to your house and your stupidly close to stuff in some uni towns. Look into it i wouldnt bother getting a car at uni its such a finantial commitment and gamble, paying over a grand a year, along with student fee's and stuff.... upto you though i guess
