Hey guys, i'm probably gona go for the rear cassette style hub and it's between the king or the proII 07. Naturally i want the king being the bike tart that i am but ive been told you do really need to make upgrades to the ss king hubs such as heavy duty axles etc. Does this defo need to be done as i can get an ss king hub with choice of sprocket for not alot more than a proII and a sprocket kit?? Really not sure what to go for, what othr upgrades apart from axle may be necessary? cheers-Hugh

I would reccomend getting a HD axle if you get a King, as the fun bolts are way better. However get the pro 2, there is no advantage having a king over a hope now, the new pro 2 hubs are every bit as good if not better.

As someone said, they are also English :P

Think the ss ones have a hd axel, I have a pro2 and love it they never skip at all ect if i had the money though i would still get a king because its a higher quality hub with more pickups. I think its preference thought because some people won't use them becuase they dont trust them as when it skips its likely to skip a half turn unlike a pro2. And that pro2's are a simple design to a king making it easier to service and also cheaper to repair. If you get a king and are a very smooth rider then i dont see a need for you to upgrade to Hd if the ss doesn't already come with it but i thought it did.

Edit: they do come with HD axel does the ss king

Like has been said a SS king hub does come with a HD axle, but i would not get one! ss kings have a small casette body that is made of alu, thus meaning your HAVE to run a wide based cog, also as a few people have found due to the soft alu the helical splines which make the whole hub work can deform slightly and thus make them skip (Prawns is doing this currently)

I am not realy a fan of ProII hubs either if i am honest.

I would recomend that you get either a CK ISO or Classic with a stainless steel drive shell and a HD axle, i have been running the same classic hub with hd axle and ss drive sheel for the past 3.5 years ish and would never use a different hub!
