FYI There's a validation station (Thanks to Dave Dennis) It allows the mods and admin to view a list of new members who joined within the past x days and has been active in the past y days. In general I look at members who've joined within the past 90 days and have been active in the previous 7. I tend not to look at members who've got less than 10 posts. There are a few members who use the report button to suggest candidates for validation and it's welcome as they very often good suggestions. Jon

In the what headset thread where you said any headset would fit... Mike from Onza corrected you to say a standard headset would not fit as the frame in question was designed to use an internal headset. Jon

I don't. I think it shows how narrow minded and naive you are. It's like saying a forumla one engine works well in formula one cars so they must be a good engine for an off-road car. By all means contribute to the forum, but posting topics (even just down to confusing/unhelpful titles) like this one wont go down well. Carry on with that attitude and you'll find yourself suspended/banned. Opinions are subjective. Get over it. Jon

Don't feed the trolls!

The first forum I remember was the yahoo! group modandstocktrials. Think that was around 1999/2000. The New-Members area was introduced mainly beacuse there were too many users who thought grammar was the old woman who lived with their grandfather, and that there are no vowels in the English alphabet. I think it's similar to OTN's kiddie korner, except that you start there, and have to graduate... Welcome Jon

I didn't want to single people out yet by giving examples, but have a look in the "new headset" thread and see how many replies in there you think if they weren't there, would the forum be a worse place? It's those sorts of posts which are getting out of hand, as they provoke more unneccesary posts and result in flaming, either directly, or others jumping on the band-wagon. I don't think anyone who's replied here really needs to worry! There's probably only a half a dozen uses who need to think before using the 'add reply' button Warnings wise - what Mark said. Jon

The Warning System There are 10 'notches' on the warning bar - 5 warning points (50%) = Automatic 1 week suspension. 10 warning points (100%) = Automatic ban. But how do I earn myself some of these points? Repeated Pointless posts (posts which add no content to the topic) = 1 warning point The harassment of other members* = 2 points Repeated Abusive or obscene language = 2 points Posting porn/indecent material = 5 points Using other members accounts without permission* = 5 points *it doesn't matter if 'your just messing its my mate' - we don't know that, which means others don't know that, which means if we let YOU get away with it other members will think they can get away with it too. So if you plan on 'messing about' with friends, make it clear that you are just joking and not being serious. Please bear in mind, anything else not mentioned, which is seen as unsuitable for the forum will result in warning points. At the moment, warnings are often accompanied by a short suspension.

There are a lot of useless topics and posts around. Useless topics from New Members are tolerated as this is the whole point of NMC. Useless replies from (often full members) is not tolerated.
