there are plus points to going single speed: 1) alot of weight loss to the bike 2) no banging of the deralliuer on the frame 3)1 less cable 4)gears can go wrong and cables snap and rust 5) you get used to single speed easily 6) bike looks better 7) can get a chain like a kmc kool chain (very strong) rather then a flimsy standard mtb chain ive ran single speed for 2 years on all the bikes ive had and there are meany gear ratios you can have but the best is 18 on the front and 14 on the rear!
there are 2 places which i knoe sell them: www.tartybikes.com www.trials-uk.co.uk i curently have a welded acs on my bike and so far its perfect (touch wood) but if you have the money to spent then get a eno
do you need the deralliuer for gears or are you using single speed? if you are using single speed then there are a good choice of dmr tentioners on www.tartybikes.com but DO NOT get the dmr simple tentioner (the one with the red nylon wheel) i just had to build a new tentioner because the wheel broke and they dont stay in one place either!
i have green rimtape in my bike! i would post a pic but the rest of the forum would kill me www.trials-uk.co.uk they do it in all sizes! Green, yellow, orange etc i think its £5 for 2 and the postage is included. pay by paypal or cash or cheque!
i would just like to say sorry to everyone i annyoed by posting the pics of my bike in various topics. i only posted pics because i am pleased with it and that i finally have a decent bike and with the stick i got with riding with people on bikes worth alot of money and looking smashing and theres me on my crappy red bike which always broke. I do get carried away easily so if you notice please tell me. Jason
hehe well im just pleased ive finally finished a bike that is actually any good! and what your planing to do sounds great too! i tryed meany of my friends trials bikes to see what i felt comfortable with complete bike or custom.
yes the wheel is 46mm wide ive had to make and weld a custom booster but it all works perfect! add me on msn if anyone wants - firestarter8790@hotmail.com
THIS IS MY PERFECT BIKE FOR ME! But i must say! you dont have to buy a brand new bike from a shop with all standard parts. There is the option which i have done which is to build my own! But oviously ask people of advice on the parts you are using or going to get!
my dmr chain tentioner broke so we fixed it using 2 cogs off of a derallier and the bearings off of the red nylon wheel (which broke) and 3 washers! works better then the original tentioner!
i dissagree dude my base is really light! well its the same weight as my friends echo control! and he has loads of lightweight parts on it. it really depends on what parts you use.
