  1. There's a company around here called the "Early Driving Centre" who give lessons to people aged 15-17 both on public and on private roads, in some gash looking Minis with dual controls.
  2. As has been said, I don't get why people would bother paying you a quid to do something they could easily do anyway? Especially if it means they've got to send you a part/buy a part off you? Anyhoo, just take the old sheared bolt out, put a new one in (I think it's M5, but who knows...). I prefer it without the red bit anyway, it's just got more adjustment, which is all for the good... Mark
  3. True, it is a lot of usage. The thing is is that I want grip, but I want a longer lasting tyre :) I think I'm just gonna go for the Creepy Crawler again, basically. I've heard good stuff about the Monty tyres, but to be fair, they cost more than the Creepy Crawler (even though with the amount of postage on them they come out as not too far off the same price as the Monty's) and I'm pretty sure the Creepy's grippier...
  4. I've had exactly the same issue too, recently. I bought some Koxx greens, and they were super nice, but I got some money into my Paypal account that I couldn't get hold of, so I decided I'd spend it online. I used to run X-Hydra pads back in the day and really liked them, so I bought some of them. The bite and hold of them is still amazing. I run a light grind and it was super good. I know that, to quote Ad Read, they're pretty 'old school' now, but if you want lots of bite and lots of hold, they're ideal. However, they wore pretty quickly and became too thin for me to use (although now I've pumped a bit more water into my Magura so the pistons sit further out anyway, resulting in me being able to run thinner pads). I went back to the greens, and they're super good. I really, really like them. They don't have the same sorta confidence inspiring noise/feel of the Hydras, but they just sorta quietly get on with the job. If you can get them cheap, I'd go for them really. I do a lot of manuals and streety stuff, so there's a lot of brake scrubbing, and they haven't worn down particularly fast or anything. I hate the minimal amount of pad material you get, which kinda takes the piss. Seeing as they're generic backings that don't cost too much, and the pad material itself won't cost that much (look at Wally's For Sale topic where he's selling some of his material to get an idea...), the fact you only get about 5mm or so of material takes the piss. Just one more shady business strategy from Koxx/Try-All... Anyway, yeah, go for the Koxx greens I guess :) Mark P.S. I know you were talking about the X-Lite pads, but basically, the Lites are just 15mm longer versions of the Hydras, so performance should be roughly the same (ish).
  5. Yeah, I've ridden that bike to school almost every day that I've had it sorted, riding a bit of street for an hour on the way home, then ride for like 4 or 5 hours Monday and Thursday nights, then most of Sunday and Saturday evening... so I guess it's not too bad... Starting to slip now though on stuff it really shouldn't be slipping on, so new rear it is (Y) Mark
  6. Update: Rear now bald and needs replacing... Is this sorta wear rate consistent with what other people have found? Just over 2 months?
  7. One on top of the cupboard in our lbs, with a sheared BB spindle, a huge crack (including a hole) around the BB shell, and similar around the bottom of the headtube/downtube weld. One word: dog.

  9. Well, that's what I wasn't sure about... 'cos people when you mail order stuff tend to go: "Can I have your name, please? OK, and now your house name. Thanks, and now can I have your postcode?" Or, they'll just use the postcode, cross-check the name and get the house address, then verify with you. 'cos basically, if you search for your postcode on a map such as multimap.co.uk, then you can get it down to a tiddly tiny area, and there can only be so many "______" named houses there. Equally, they should be able to work it out anyway (Y)] But yeah, jus wondering (Y)
  10. Yeah. To be fair, Poptarts are a bit of a prize. The b*****d postman took the bleed bolt out of the envelope I was sending to someone on here. I'm pretty sure a tasty treat (I wouldn't know, I've never had one (Y)) would be pretty much more attractive to a postman than a little grub screw. Risky game.
  11. If I wanted to, could I just put the person's name, their house name/number and the postcode? This is just born out of an idle conversation with Nick, basically. So is it actually feasible, just bad posting etiquette, or would it crash and burn? The fate of my Poptarts depends on it. Mark
  12. Was it used in the context of: (Y)
  13. The humble "Splade". Part fork, part spoon, mostly f**king awesome. Let flaming commence (Y)
  14. Yeah, it's pretty fly. What's also pretty fly is when you buy a new pair and they're lovely and soft, just after taking off your super hard, packed down year-old pair (Y)
  15. Monty grips are really, really nice. I really liked mine, and think I might go back to them if/when my Azonic grips die. Now it's getting warmer and my hands are sweating like a <insert funny comparison here>, I'm really starting to remember how much I appreciated having lovely foam padding there to soak it up. Apparently, the Ritchey WCS foam grips are better, but I prefered the uber thin feel of the Monty's. Mine were fine sans gloves, but they were OK with gloves too; it largely depended on how hot it was and whether my skin condition (Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex) was being wank... But yeah, just take 'em off, soak them in water, and put 'em on then. As you force them on you'll basically wring them dry, so it should be diamond (Y) Mark
  16. Hey, Music didn't really do it for me, was a bit too heavy for the riding, but for a quick editing job it was pretty cool (Y) Just take your time with the full one and it should be cooly cool (Y) Mark
  17. Haha, I made it 50% each (Y) I'd say Echo Team. I run Pazzaz risers, and with the ZOO! it felt like my hands were below my feet. I couldn't do anything at all - it totally limited me and felt gash. I changed back to my T-Master stem (same as the Echo, basically), and it felt 10x better. It's just a much nicer set-up. Saying this, I don't really want to ride CLS-style (although wouldn't mind the hugeness, it's just his style of riding isn't similar to mine) so I guess if you wanna follow in his tyre-tracks it'd probably be a good thing, but for me it was gash... There is a BIG difference between the stems; the ZOO! stem lowered my bar height by around 1.5" or so.

    Text Talk?

Even stuff like basic punctuation would make about 75% of the shit posts on here non-shit. When you just get a stream of non-punctuated words, it's just makes you not wanna bother reading it. And, as someone's signature says: "Capitalisation means the difference between "I helped my Uncle Jack off a horse" and "i helped my uncle jack off a horse" :)

    Text Talk?

Since I've gone on OTN more, text speak and general crappy language skills have been more obvious to me. You can really tell who the UK people are on there, to put it one way.

    Text Talk?

I'm almost certain I can type a properly written sentence faster than some 'tard can write it in text speak. They'll understand mine before I understand their's too. Plus, they won't be half as annoyed as I will be :) It really pisses me off. ESPECIALLY when, like at the moment, people in year 11 are doing their Leavers Books where they get their friends to sign it. You see loads of shit like "iv bin avin loadz of fun with u ovr da last 3 yrs, its bin gr8". So great, I can't be f**ked to write properly... I'm not a spelling nazi or anything, but text speak is just so shit!
  22. The ZOO! stem is rockingly low - waaaaaay too low for me. It lowered my bar height by about an inch and a half to two inches: too much for my liking. Got 'em at about 38" now and it feels super good :) (That's with a T-Master stem and Pazzaz CF risers, by the way)
  23. Just as a side note: If someone posts a thread that you've seen a couple of times before, DON'T post "Use the search" or "God I've seen this thread millions of times" or anything like that if someone has already told them to use the search. 3 threads I've just looked at have basically been someone new to the forum asking a question that we've all asked at some point, only to have 10 replies of "God, ur stupid" "use th srch" and crap like that. This forum's a 'community' place, and as such having such a hostile atmosphere for people just getting started is stupid. Even Vincent Hermance, Kenny Belaey, Martyn Ashton, etc. were all just little grommits at one stage who used to ask questions like that (not on here, obviously :)), so just try and bear that in mind. You don't know who you're talking to, so just be polite or shut up. Mark

Yes, even if it doesn't say "FOR SALE" in the title, it's pretty obvious :) Nice try though. See you in a few days :)
