Anyone Got A 2005 Monty Ti And A Rear Disk Setup
Ashley Smith replied to hugh_b's topic in Trials Chat
the problem with rear disc on a trial bike is that you are only locking the hub and rotor, not the rim, therefore a lot of flex is caused, i found this before, ideally on a trial bike you want the brake locking on the rim rather than a disc, therefore there is less flex. regards ash -
hope trials brake, i can't honestly say i have ever tried a better brake...... (Y)

yer and fcuk your headtube :) just go to a bike shop for a headset pressing, it will be completely parallel to each other then, regards ash

these hubs are not going to be released for a while, i have been testing this hub for around a year now and am on my 5th one, next week i shall recieve another one with a redesinged ratchet, we are still having minor problems with the engagement and skipping, for any information concerning this hub please do not hesitate to contact me either by pm'ing me or on msn msn: trialnoir@hotmail.com regards ash

this once happened to me with a mini after it had been stood for a couple of days, no matter what i tried they would not return they would simply keep moving back, i took it to hope and they replaced the seals and re-blead, all was fine after, mayebe contact hope and send them the brake regards ash

just tell me how the hell is an avid cable disc better than a hope mono trial? how are they unreliable????????????????????????????????????????????? have you ever used one? regards ash
-
get the hope mono trial! cant fault these brakes regards ash
-
i shouldnt worry too much! you're probably better off not getting involved you could get yourself in a lot of trouble at school over this regards ash
-
this is the m6 , m6 ones as you put it :D :P regards ash
-
unless you made brake adapters that work the other way to the monty ones or used a disc then it would fit in another frame , otherwise no, these are very soft rims regards ash
-
it is just how hope desgned them, trust me, i tested one of these brakes for them.............. the reson being is because on an mono m4 there is less 'height' in the pads and rotor, where the brake works whereas on the older satandard series of mini and m4 the area was larger, the old mini came with wavey wheras the new ones come with just a standard rotor, to be honest with you there is not really any mechanical differneces, only looks regards ash
-
the hope mono series brakes are not designed to be used with wavey rotors regards ash

the ratchet ring is on a screw thread and they are tight still when they heat them up, they very rarely bother to mess with these at hope they simply change the hub shell, this is less hasle and is quite cheap to do regards ash
-
just to enlighten you all, the spring washers are used as a type of locking nut, kind of like a nylock nut it stops the bolt coming undone, therfore keeping the bolt tight when torqued up correctly regards ash

hope are currently designing some new skewers >_< regards ash

getting a ratchet ring out of a hope hub is a difficult job (extremely) i know the guys at hope and they don't like removing them, because they are always so tight, you will not be able to do it yourself either, i was tolds by hope it takes about three people to hold the wheel whilst another person tries to get the ring out using a tool with a long bar for leaverage regards ash >_<
-
i cant see hope doing that for you really, is it a hub which has been used? if it has already been anodised then it is unlikely you will be able to do it again, for instance when anodising you would first have to strip the old anodise by dipping in nitric acid, this makes the tolerances bigger i.e. spoke holes, and the bearing fit, not a good idea is it? also you have that problem of the ratchet ring still being in place, these are extremely difficult to remove and you can not anodide whilst stell is in place regards ash :D

Open systems are always a pain to set up! After setting up and then pumping the lever a few times it will most probably rub again, this is due to the pistons, 'settling', due to open systems being self adjusting. A way of sorting this is to have your mounts faced and then set up dead central, but again it will msot probably rub or make a tinging noise, just ride it, it won't be nothing to worry about, you have to remeber for good lever feel, there has to be minimum gap between pads and rotor, thus an open system! Another problem as mentioned could be a warped disc, this can be easily sorted with an adjustable spanner. Regards ash

this thread has gone way to over the top............................. its braided hose for god's sake.................. for cheapness i would go for the hope over the goodridge, i have been using the hope braided cable for over a year now with no problems whatsoever...................... regards ash

organic pads are just like normal pads to bed in, they are just standard pads, they are better suited for this counties climate, whereas, sintered take a bit longer to bed in. regards ash (Y)
