answers to questions so far: - yes they are goin to be non disc for the trials version, the single speed was just a prototype yes they are all coming out in all the usual colours (except green and purple as hope have given over with these colours, there was not enough demand for them) they will be available in either 32 or 36 hole spoke options yes the 18 long months was very testing............... finidng a pawl and spring design which works, as of yet the new leaf spring design is yet to skip, on either my bike or joe shepheards.......my fellow trials rider. feedback from other disciplines of the biking world e.g. xc and dh have been good keep the questions coming guys cheers ash

Hi, i thought i would make a topic on the new, soon to be released hope pro 2 hubs, i have been testing these hubs for around 18 months with various different combinations of ratchet designs, The hubs are now fully finished in terms of design for the standard hubs, the single speed/ 6 sprocket dishless trials version is still a prototype (i only just recieved mine today) the hubs are as follows pro 2: this will have aluminium drive shell, with a 24 pawl rathcet body with 4 equal pawls giving 24 engagement points. pro 2 t: this will have a stainless stell drive shell, with 24 pawl ratchet body with 4 offset pawls giving 48 engagement points. these are all due in decmeber to be in shops these are pictured below in ash kenndards post (he is uploading the pics of my hubs) however today i receieved a new prototype, which i asked to be made, this is going to be quite interseting for trials riders this is a pro 2 t hub, with a shorter cassette body made of stainless steel, this gives a dishless rear wheel, whioch is a lot stronger than normal, also the hub hosts M10m button head bolts rather than qr's but the good thing about this certain hub is that it can accomodate 6 of hopes new sprockets in a wide array of sizes, thus being able to be used on a stock bike for british championships rules, also it can be run as single speed, this hubs to me, looks like it will be the choice of trials riders, due to the dishless option and the 6 sprockets fitting perfectly, ash is now goin to upload the pictures for me, any questions please fell free to ask cheers ashley smith, barnoldswick

to get my pads flat to the rim so that they wear evenley, i use a small piece of sheet metal, 2mm thick i place this next to the rim and the pad, and then push the pad up to the metal then tightne the clamps, thus a perfectly set up brake each time ash
-
koxx greens without a doubt..................... i cannot fault my pads on a smooth echo rim, unbelievable power........ ash
-
it shouldnt do though, because it isnt going to crack the frame is it removing stickers? but if there laquered over the that can be a different story..................... ash

i didnt know you had used this hub pete, as far as i know and am still awear there are only 3 trials riders in the country using this pro 2 hub, there names being me akak ashley smith, rik duckworth, and joe shepheard, and i have seen the list of other none trials riders who have this hub, and sorry mate but your name is not on this list........................ you may have had a go with the old style spring that you mentioned but cartainly not on the new leaf spring design, there are only a few in existance to date.............. however they are due out early december, that was quoted from hope this week. the single speed hub shown is prelimainary the same as a pro 2 trials, but with a smaller barrel, all internals are the same as the standard barrel pro 2 but with a wider shell to give a dishless rear wheel, i have recently been in talks with hope about this new single speed hub, it turns out that you can get six of hopes new cogs, side by side each other on the single speed body, which is good fro trials as it conforms to british championship rules............... however that is still an idea, i receive my single speed version pro 2 next week when the barrles are finished being machined, theres only two of the hubs shown in existance so far, one of which is on a test bike for orange i believe and the other is on one of the hope bosses bikes, (simon sharpes) however back to the post, the pro 2 (24 eps) and pro 2 trials (48 eps )hubs are defiantley out in december the single speed version will be early next year with some other exciting new products from hope any question please post in this topic cheers ash ps pete where did you get mk 8 from there was only 5 different models made over 1 1/2 years?
-
sounds cool, how about the bottom bracket shells dropouts etc do you machine them yourself? what price range are we looking at cheers ash
-
cool, il be looking forward to seeing your designs............ are the frames made in house? what materials do you use? are you using steel (reynlods?, 4130?, t45?) or are you using alu? are the frames bespoke? cheers ash
-
cyclo trials, this until recently was my only sport, now i have built a xc bike, i am tending do do quite a lot of miles on this, to build up my strength, also just started moto trials, trials all round for me though, i hate team sports ash
-
have you got any pictures of your custom frames pete, i would'nt mind seeing a few.............. cheers my perfect geometry for a bike is 1080 wheelbase 385 stays 20mm b/b rise 72degree h/angle ash
-
The bolts sizes for the frames are M5 although it doesn't sound like what you are doing is goin to work, personally i would wait for the correct mounts ash
-
i recommend hope all the way, although the best headsets they made, they discontinued..................the enduro model, this was the taper roller bearing model, more adjustability than the xc model headset, but slightly heavier, i would advise a hope over a king simply because of the price difference, plus it is british made, you cannot beat hopes machining quality........... hope all the way................ ash
-
thats video was the best i have seen in a while, a real inspiration for my own riding, what was the song that you used called? cheers ash
-
first of all im not a mechanic, im a technical engineer, i know more about hubs than you think, ash, any questions about this hub, please post in this topic or pm me, it gets confusing with all these different topics cheers ash
-
any questions about the pro 2 hub, just ask.......................... :(
-
no, hope are no longer waiting for bearings, they have started using different manufacturers now, from what i am told from the designer, the axles come with a 5mm hole for the qr, however an m6 tap is easily run down this then m6 stainless cap head screws are about 20 p each, although when the single speed hub is released i am told trhis will come with m10 cap heads as standard, i am currently awaiting my single speed hub from them, as i am wanting the dishless rear wheel option ash
-
from what i have been told from the designer , yes........................ they will be in shops and in the anodised colours, the one on my bike is the pro 2 t model, this is the one which will be sold, it is absolutely solid, its my 6th different version and it is awesome, it uses the leaf spring and pawl design similar to a profile, it has 4 bearings and a 15mm axle, so no flexing causing skipping like older model xcs, which cuased skipping due to the axle stretching and flexing, this what was the problem causing big burrs, around the ratchet body, we have not had this problem with the new one ash i will find out hopes release date this week and post back here cheers
-
wtf, can i ask what do you know about this, exactly, nothing, the hope pro 2 design is now finalised, and should be in shops very very soon, there will be the standard pro 2 in various combinations, with 24 eps with aluminium cassette body then there will be the pro 2 t model for trials, which has stainless steel cassette body, as hope are now ceasing production of all titanium products due to its high price, this includes qrs and cassette bodys, these hubs should be appearing within the next few weeks according to the designer, there are also going to be a single speed version released which will allow for a six speed cassette to be run, whilst having a dishless rear wheel, this will be a future product though......... cheers ash
-
your all wrong actually, there are two different models of this hub, there is the pro 2 which has 4 equally spaced pawls therefore giving 24 eps then there is the pro 2 t which is the trials version, this has 2 offset pawls, therefore giving 48 eps when speaking to the designer last week, he told me they are now nearly ready for release, the design is finalised. and to the clever d**k who said go buy a chris king, go fcuk yourself instead, you havnt used a pro 2 have you? so don't even try slating the design off ash
-
i would'nt mind having a go on a gu, when i saw them in the flesh at the world round on phil's stand they looked amazing, also the gu mod inspires my thoughts also......... ash
-
i thought that was the new prototype t-rex with higher bottom bracket rise just a thought............ ash
-
the problem hope have been having is the seals going dry, this is not really a major problem, the thing they recommmended peopel to do was to take the pads out then spray a little lubricant around the pistons then pump the lever slightly, not so much that the pistons fall out though, then return the pistons to the home position, re-fit the pads and all being well they should be ok, if all else fails send the brake back to hope, ash
-
gauge plate is a form of steel but a lot harder with a more distinct grain, i will find out as i know the designer at hope, there not stainless anyway because they go rusty where they have been laser cut on the inside its ash
-
discs arnt made from stainless, i think they are made out of gauge plate but dont quote me on that ash
