to remove the anodised surface simply grind the rim or use wet and dry paper to remove ash

what about an echo bottom bracket they are quite sweet should be getting mine this week. very simple and effective design, which should complement you gu nicely ash

just wondering but how are they meant to be a lot stronger.any crank you get is still going to flex to a certain degree otherwise they would be too rigid ash

to me all of this is complete bullshit, none of my final prototypes have broken...let alone skipped....never mind breaking within two weeks........ if you dont believe me ask waynio, he uses one.......... if your that worried that a competent manufacturer can't produce a hub that last longer than two weeks then don't bother buying one...... whos your freind who uses them? i beleieve the only trials riders to have them so far is me (ashley smith) waynio, matt holdsworth and joe shepheard..............all the rest of these hubs are on xc bikes and dh bikes........ i know this for a fact whos your friend who knows us..............? ash

all i can honestly say is from your replies your not much of an engineer, get the fcuking things drilled out and helicoiled don't moan on here and as dave said .................use grease ash

we never have problems with helicoils in our aero engines, so i cant see why your having problems with them in a bike frame? you must of been fairly yanking on the helical insert tool to be able to snap it, either that or it was some real cheap crap, either way they shouldnt break that easily, if your an engineer then there should be no problem, if not helicoiling simply drill out the thread to 5mm, then tap m6, simple enough............... your attitude to frame replacement is a little childsish, it is not select bikes or a manufacturing fault, its simply yours for using either the wrong length bolts i.e. being too long......... or cross threading them.... i sugest just repairing the damn thing isntead of moaning on here............ you dont 'quit' just because you cant set your bike up correctly, ive seen lads force incorrect bolts into frames just so they can ride......... its no reason just to give up because of this ash

ive never had a problem with heli coiling a frame or any other material for that matter, probably because i know how to heli coil correctly............... the best thing in my oppion is to helicoil it, it will last loads longer but get it done at a competent local engineering company also instead of using washers use shorter bolts ash

the coating we use at rolls though is not meant for aluminium its for titanium anyway as i said i will find out this week ash

no i just test ride for hope, i actually work for rolls royce, i was wondering how you knew i work there? lol..... me and ali c have been talking about this today, we are going to get an old rim plasma coated sometime quite soon to see if it works, the way it works is quite simple, it is applies as a molten spray which bonds to the material i.e. the rim, however my first concern with plasma coating a rim is that the temperature it is applied at (which at the moment i am unsure of til later this week) may damage the properties of the aluminium rim, as far as cost is concerned, i could potentially pass it off as a 'foreigner' as they are known to us at rolls. but i dont think i would be able to get too many rims coated without getting a stern telling off! lol i am back at work on tuesady and my first port of call will be the design office to find information out about this, when i know more i will post back up as far as a ceramic rim is concerned, ar'nt they already supposed to be better for braking? ash
