V-brake On A Magura 4 Bolt Mount? Adapter?
Bigman replied to Mod Man Leo's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
I have just got a set of Onza vee adapters (like heatsink) they are awsome, they have a much lower profile than the heatsink ones, and should be cheaper, only thing is that they are not availiable to buy at the moment, but i was lucky enough to find a guy with a t-pro selling some. Before i had these i made some, they worked very well, the only real problem with making them is finding someone with the correct tap for the vee bosses, as it is a funny size (M10 x 1.25). If you can find someone who wants to sell a set of onza adapters (i may have a set fo sale....) or u can make some/get heatsink ones i would stick with a rear vee, they ROCK Adam -
mmmm very niiice, how much? Adam

Getting an eyeletted rim will not make "that" much difference, i was am running a koxx rim on the back and was when i had my rear disc and that gave me no trouble, If you do decide to go rear disc it would be adviseable to get a 36hole rear wheel as it would be much better suited to the stresses put on it through the disc, Also if you can get it built in 4 cross it would be more of an advantage (my rear wheel is 4cross) Just because the wheel is built 3 cross it doesn't mean it is a strong build! i have seen 3cross wheels die very quickly it depends on how it is built and tensioned etc. Back on the topic of the Simtra, i have one and REALY like it, you saw me in plymouth on it Adam. They are not too long mine measures in at around 1085 which is a nice length in my oppinion and the 20mm BB rise makes it nice on the backwheel, I would say that they are fairly strong, i have not heard of any breaking, i have given mine some abuse and if you see what James Barton puts his through (more than i put through mine). also having a +40mm disc moutn is awsome as it means it is possible to run a 200mm rear rotor without the need for any adapters Rear disc is realy nice, mine was awsome but it take abit of time to get used to the spoke flex, but if the wheel is built well and the spokes kept tight this will not be so much of a problem, my wheel didn't realy flex that much. They provide very good lock but unlike a mag they provide a nice amount of modulation! and also they are silent! The only real reason i changed back to a rim brake was that being the size that i am i prefer the more positive lock/feel of a rim brake, and now i have my rear vee which is silent i am happy I am sure you had a bounce on mine in plymouth didn't you? There are a few more frames with rear disc mounts but the only one to have a disc mount that will "realy" be strong enough for trials use is the MBK T-1000 it has a fairly beefy rear mount but the geometry is fairly different to that of the simtra, the Kot MS2 has a good discmount, also a +20mm like the MBK. There is also the BT raven7 but that has a standard ISO disc mount so ti run anything over 160mm you will need an adapter (unless it is a BB7 you are running) Hope that helps Adam

I just did it by drawing a line right down the centre of the material (as i wanted all vee bosses in the same line as the 4bolt holes) drilled the holes for the 4 bolt mounts then roughly worked out how close i could get to the 4bolt holes with the vee boss (remember that the bosses will need to be countersunk slightly due to the larger diameter above the threads) Adam

They don't do one....... Adam

I made some they work very well. To start i went to my local aluminium dealer and bought some scrap 10mm plate off them, 10mm is thick enough to provide enough stiffness but not to thick that it makes the whole vee brake setup stick up to much. I then began making them, using only an angle grinder and some files the worst thing about making them is that the thread size for a vee boss is not a very comon size, it is M10 1.25mm pitch, luckily my grandad had one (he has everything) so i was in the position to finish them. Because i made them with a grinder it is hard to explain realy how i did it. Adam

I would suguest the new 07 Controls, from what i have heard they are VERY good forks, i have had the 06 controls before and loved them! The new 07's will be my next forks Adam

Pete Wright certainly did have one of those rims, it was a 26inch one, i drilled it for him, 2 rings of holes, i will try and get a picture. In my oppinion 47mm rims are PLENTY wide enough for trials, with that rim petes 2.7inch maxxis highroller was almost square, it was stupid! Adam

I would personaly go for Avid levers, i have run XTR ones before and i find that if you adjust the leverage using the slide adjustment they tend to "clunk" when you pull the lever. I currently have the older style SD7 levers which are realy nice but have a bit of a flat fron to the lever blade which i am personaly not a fan of, hence why i have just ordered a set of the new style SD7 levers with a more rounded lever blade. So i would say SD7 but if you can afford it Ultimate levers Adam
