Vees tend to have abit more modulation that maguras, but then again with a smooth rim your modulation should be better than with a grind for example, i could not tell you about a smooth rim as i have not ran one for about 3.5 years If you get some Rock pad greens in vee backings i would say that you would have a very good brake on a smooth rim Pashley26: buying them new means spending £60+ (also you only get black pads, which in all honesty are SHITE!) and if you already have a magura why would you want to buy another just to get evo mounts? You can get a VERY good vee brake for not alot of money, example: Dewhore arms: £10 (CRC) Odessey Linear Slick Cable: £6 (Pijn) SD7 lever: £11 (Tarty) Trials vee pads: From £15 - £22 Budget setup Total (Minus adapters, Most expensive pads): £49 Booster for above setup: Echo Vee Booster £20 (Tarty) So that setup with booster comes in at £69 (And all new parts!) A comparative Magura setup, cost if all new: Rear Magura, 4bolt clamps: £65 (Tarty) Pads: £18 ish (Tarty) So already a total of £83 Then if a booster is required which would be an aditional £20 at least you are looking upwards of £100! That budget vee setup would work VERY well, i ran dewhore arms when i first went to a vee and they are bloody good brakes, The only difference i have over that setup is that i am running avid ultimate arms and a shimano carbon booster, oh and home made adapters as i have a 4 bolt frame. My current vee setup has cost me: Ultimate arms: £35 second hand Carbon Booster: £20 second hand Pads: £15 new from ebay SD7 levers: £16 (pair CRC) Odessy Cable: £6 Total: £92 so still cheaper than the magura setup with booster I do not mean to create an argument as there are always people that are going to think that because vees have cables etc that they must be shite, all i can say is that anybody who has tried my rear brake has always been realy surprised about how well it works, i realy would not swap it for a magura setup, only benefit of a magura is that they tend to be abit more bitey than a vee, but they still lack the hold. The best magura setup i have ran was an 04 magura with a water bleed, hope braided hosing, heatsink CNC backings with coust rubber on a koxx rim on a simtra with theinbuilt booster and that brake was SOOOOO good, bite was amazing and the hold was good but still not as good as the vee. Edit: Forgot to say that a vee on vee mounts will give a stiffere lever feel than a magura on vee mounts, I put a magura on my czar to see what it would be like and it felt soo spungy, before that i was running my vee setup without the booster and it was still as stif as most maguras i have felt and worked better Adam PS: Vee's don't freeze too

I am sorry, but all i have to say is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA Sorry that may have been a little harsh, but my vee kicks all magura's arses! Adam

best bet in my opinion would be to get a decent vee on there Adam

Wooo Czar's Rule! It feels longer than the pure because it has a steeper head angle, only slightly but it is steeper! Mine will be getting some alterations soon...... Adam

Vees don't need constant adjusting Ash, probably less than maggies do, and they bite well enough, like you say though, they do hold very well, MUCH better than a magura, and realy i think i am the only rider who can REALY coment on the hold of a brake being that i weigh pretty much twice ash kennard (20st ish) and my vee very rarely slips! They may be a tad heavier but meh, who cares for a working brake, you can loose the difference in weight other places on a bike. Also do you bite coment, you should have tried my vee when i had koxx greens and no booster, it was easily as bitey as a mag and still had more hold Adam

please don't get XTR brakes! If you are going to upgrade to anything go for ultimates, they realy are sooo much better, the parrallel linkages realy make the XTR very noisy and they are easier to wear out compared to the ultimate. But firstly get some pads and use them on the SD7's as they are very good brakes too! Adam
