It will not work, the whole idea of a disc brake is to have 2 smooth surfaces that cause high amounts of friction, causing the stopping power..... Adam

The front rim started out as 580g and ended up as 483g, so pretty much a 100g loss (rim already had 25mm circle holes when i started) the rear was a trialtech undrilled, so around 800g ish i think and it ended up as 614g which is very light, even lighter than the single walled try all hOle rims!! I am thinking of doing another in the next few months, and making it last a little longer (got to have matching rims!) Weight difference is noticable, i went from a try-all rim with 25mm holes to the large square hole rim and it was deffinatly noticable, it is more the difference in the rotational weight of the rim, meaning that it takes less effort to get it to spin/move. Drilling an undrill rim is simple, best way i have found is to use a small pillar drill, but it is also possible to use a hand drill, but if you use a hand drill i would recomend going around the rim measureing the centres and centre punching them so the drill goes where you want it to, drill size all depends on the rim that you are going to drill, something like a D521 can take up to a 17mm ish i think, my DX32 rims usualy had 25mm holes but i have seen them with bigger. As for the type of drill, any normal drill bit will work, but they will only go up to around 13mm, but check you drill as some only have a chuck that will fit up to 10mm, if you want to go bigger a hole saw is needed, which requires you to buy and arbour (sp?) and then the appropriate size hole saw for it. Just being alittle picky i know, but the rotor on that Ice mod is too small for that caliper, WAY to small...... I have to say it does look nice..... Adam

Cheapest way is to get a file and get started! Unfortunatly it is pretty much the only way to do it, unless you have access to a milling machine (Which i have, and is how i did mine) you can use a drill to drill where you want the corner of the squares to be, then drill out as much material as possible then tidy it all up with the file. A picture of mine which i did with a milling machine: Using the milling machine still took a while 3-4 hrs per rim, but it was alot less effort! (I folded the rear one but wanna do another with slightly smaller holes.) Adam

Hey peoples! This year I plan on having a good go at loosing a fair amount of weight, there is a swimming pool not far from here that is opens at 7.30 and i am thinking of trying to go there before lectures 2-3 times during the week, and maybe once at the weekends. I have enough time in the mornings that i could easily keep an hour free to swim. What I a looking for is a rough idea of what I should be looking to do whilst there, eg: timing for a certain number of lengths and trying to beat it, or how many lengths can be achieved in an 1/2 and hour or something. So anybody got any tips? Thanks Adam PS: I will not, under any circumstances be wearing speedo's!!!

Most forks come with atleast a 200mm long steerer, give tarty a call and they will be able to tell you the length that comes on the forks you are interested in. Adam

Like has been said running a rear rim on the front is perfectly fine, especialy if you have a 26inch as if it were a mod you would end up adding a great deal of weight to the front of the bike as you would have to run a much larger tyre. What rim is it you are thinking of running? There were a few american riders who ran rear 19inch rims and tyres on the front of thier mods, always looked strange to have such a big setup on the front of the bike, must have been good when you needed some bounce/stability on the front wheel, but like has been said it would weigh alot more. 9 months, wow thats a long time, when i broke my wrist, around this time last year i was in cast for just under 6 weeks, then took a month off riding (realy hard ) i started riding again at the begining of march. What is it you have broken? my break was border line needing to be re-set (which i presume your operation was for) pic: As you can see it was the large bone (no idea on name) that broke, if you have broken the scafoid (i think) which is a small bone around your wrist i have heard that it will take a while to heal, ask Rowan he broke his a few years ago. As for staying motivated, as soon as i couldn't ride i got realy bored meaning all i wanted to do was ride, also i found constant fiddling with my bike etc helped, although when i was not riding my bike was cracked and i was waiting for a new frame so it was not so bad (as i could not ride). I would suggest maybe keeping an eye on vids etc on here, i know vids helped me keep motiivated to ride, and maybe go out on a few rides as a camera man, do some filming and take pictures etc. Adam

Have a word with Prawn, he has a STD size try-all stem that he is looking to sell, not sure on the measurements but i would guess at 90-100mm 5 - 7deg rise. Adam

If it is riser bars you are after the Rockman ones are very comfortable but some people may find them abit narrow at 28inchs, if you are after a little more width go for trialtechs, and either of them on a stem between 10 - 17deg rise (rockman bars have more rise than trialtechs) and around 110 - 120mm length As for forks, i would suggest something like trialtechs, very good forks! They are good rims Ben, It is what i am running on the rear, although mine does have extra holes, They are basicaly the same as a koxx rim just with 28mm holes instead of 25mm which makes them lighter. Spoke lengths i am not sure of, but tarty would know. Adam

What front rim are you planning on using, alot of people forget that if you go for a 28h front drilled rim it will actualy be heavier than a 32h front drilled rim (example a try-all) as there may be 4 less spokes, but then it means that there is 4 less large holes, a good example is a try-all rear, the difference between a 36h and 32h one is that the 32h tends to be around 40g heavier! personaly i would go for 32h just for the extra strenght, and the slight weight advantage, of course if it is not a drilled rim you are going for 28h will be lighter. Got to agree with Adam, Doesn't look to be a ductile failure. But i have heard of a few going like this, as has already been mentioned there was a batch that seemed to have this problem. Adam

pretty impressive, but abit of practice and i would be up for having a go It would have a Forward reverse shuttle, basicaly one seperate lever than does just forwards and reverse, making direction changes very quick, they are also clutchless, so all you do is flick the switch Adam
