  1. Ah yes the volume problem. Well i made the mother of all f**kups and assumed that volume could be controlled from the ipod. However this is not the case. I plan on routing the volume knob to just to the right of my steering wheel so its hidden and volume control will be done from there. Im a bit of a neat freak and not a great fan of exposed cables, and the simplicity of just putting the ipod wherever i can reach it (doorcard / people in the back seat / pocket / dash ect.) was part of the plan, so bluetooth seemed the best option. And as for the other peoples music, i may put a 3.5mm socket in the passenger dash, that could look pretty cool? Oh and once i have all the circuitry worked out, its all going into a box and into the glovebox (screwed down) to route from there. Still accessible but hidden well.
  2. i'll keep the thread updated, its nothing i'd ever heard of before but couldn't see any reason why is shouldn't work!
  3. The bluetooth receiver - £18 And a video to show it all working rigged up to a small speaker in my room. http://yfrog.com/c8mov01144z Im pretty pleased with it all overall so far, however i was hoping the bluetooth reciever would also be 12vDC, but its 5vDC. Anyone know the best way to drop it down to 5v. Its only going to be drawing a max of 0.2A so i was thinking maybe just a resistor? As i cant see too much heat being produced? Im open to other ideas though.
  4. Thanks for all your help guys, i ordered some bits and they arrived mid-week when i was away. Everything is looking pretty good at the mo:- The amp from ebay - £60 Deliverd. Yeah i could have got a cheaper one but i fancied a bit of quality
  5. Well in the entire time i've had the car i've never had a headunit, and i quite like the look of it without, but i think i'd be pretty cool to just wack out an ipod and bust out some tunes wirelessly lol. Im not after anything loud, and if the car had come with the originals then i'd have probally stuck with them lol. Cheers for the advice man, i'll have a ponder on ebay.
  6. Ok, so the plan is to erridacate the need for a head unit. I only ever use my ipod for music and i dont see the point in having one. The plan is to go from my ipod, bluetooth to an audio reciever, then that into an amp, then out to only a few speakers ( in specific these ones) Now i know most car amps are to power hundreds of watts because of the sub or whatever, however i just want to listen to music normally. I may put another two similar speakers in the back but thats about it. A huge £100 amp seems a bit too much for such a small job. Is there anything anyone can recommend that'll be a but more suitable?
  7. advanced apprenticeship with e.on, looking to specialise in control and instrumentation. Im half way through my national certificate, then onto my foundation degree. If i do well enough at that e.on pay for me to go and complete my full degree at uni. result.
  8. ah sweet man, all the best with that. Any other problems hit me up, im doing an apprenticeship and covered all the basics last year, kept all my notes and most of my assignments which may be of some help at some point.
  9. out of interest, why do you ask?
  10. Adding resistors in parallel is 1/(1/r1 + 1/r2 + 1/r....) - so on and so forth. Adding resistors in series is as simple as r1 + r2. Resistors added in parrallel will always give a value lower than the lowest resistor when added together. Break the circuit down into 2 parts. Parallel = 1/(1/50 + 1/70) = 29.16 ohms (this is now theoretically in series with the other two resistances) Series 29.16ohms + 30ohms + 40ohms =99.17ohms. For future reference, when there are only two resistors in parrallel you can use the equation 'product over sum'. As so - Rt = R1 x R2 / R1 + R2
  11. a mega is a trade name for a multimeter. Just like hoover and vacuum cleaner. You ask any half competent sparky for a mega, he'll know what you're on about.
  12. sweet, i used to listen to a fair bit (what i could get my hands on) of him about a year ago. Upper Clapton dance is a f**king tune! Send my regards, hope this is a big break for him, can see the tune going big!

  18. So i dont ride trials anymore, but i come on here pretty much everyday. I dont really post a great deal unless its something that interests me, and spend most of my time looking at crap in BOTI But the crazy thought i just had... Will you still be coming on here and checking BOTI in 20 years time? Discuss...
  19. Trials forum - making such an irrelevant subject so scientific and philosophical. I love this place.
