Roof tar..or road tar stuff...the black sticky stuff! Rub some of it on your rim then your brake will be better... Yeah they do give a good lock, and a nice sound.. The sound of your brake depends on what booster you have really... Im running an Echo 4 bolt booster on mine, and its not as loud as not having a booster... But it still gives a nice squeek.

I use Zoo! pads on a grind with no tar! They're realllly good, ive not tried them on a smooth rim but im guessing they''ll be just as good.. I'd say grind your rim for the winter Cos you dont wanna be running tar when its wet and that...
