  6. For those of you who took part in Sundays trial at addingham here is what the papers had to say. Locals come to the fore at Moorside pushbike trials By Keighley News reporter Comment Sunday saw the return of trials to Addingham Moorside after a break of several months. However, this wasn't motor bike trials this was push bike trials, an ever increasingly popular sport that is attracting entries of up to 100 riders at each event and a local club, Tyke Trials, is right in the heart of the action. Tyke Trials ran the fifth round of the UK National Bike Trials championship on Sunday, which attracted over 70 riders to the Addingham Moorside venue. Ten sections had been laid out the previous day and were to be tackled twice. The sections are very similar to motor bike sections but in places are far more spectacular because you can get a mountain bike up some seemingly impossible rocks if you know how to! As this was a locally organised event, there were plenty of riders from the Keighley, Skipton and Silsden areas with local riders featuring in the top three of most of the classes. advertisementThe classes are based on age with riders as young as six able to compete. For example young Thomas Lampkin, nephew of Silsden's world motor bike trials rider Dougie Lampkin, is continuing his family's presence in the trials scene and rode well in this popular event. There were a total of 11 riders under the age of ten competing on Sunday which shows just how popular this sport is with the youngsters. Local lad Robbie Peacock from Cross Hills, who is the current British Poussin champion, took a well earned victory in his class on the day and was out on his new trials bike. Adam Raven brought home the first place medal in the beginner's class and Megan Roberts came top of the Femina class. The boys at the top of the game, the masters and the elite riders seem to have nerves of steel and the ability to defy gravity. Hopping up a five foot vertical rock face is nothing to them as is jumping across a eight foot wide gap - It's all in a days riding! The Tyke Trials club boasts a world champion in its membership and several riders who compete in the world series at all levels. Ben Savage, who was the winner of the Addingham Moorside Cup for the rider who dropped the least marks, had only just returned from a recent world round in the Czech Republic four days before riding this event and had achieved a very impressive second in class. This only goes to help bring on the rest of the riders at the events as they can watch and talk to these amazing riders and try to emulate their heroes. Savage took first place in the masters class on the day with Keighley rider Wayne Mahomet seemed to perform at his best when the heavens opened and gave a superb demonstration of sheer skill and determination on one of the sections as the rain poured down. The event was rounded off in glorious sunshine and finalised with the awards ceremony. Guest of honour was the deputy Lord Mayor of Silsden Keith Savage who handed out the awards to the riders and who also gave a very positive and encouraging speech regarding the future of Addingham Moorside and the event he had witnessed. It was a fitting end to this event and proved just what a superb venue Addingham Moorside is. Event organiser Barbara Wright said that the venue, which had been closed to trials events earlier in the year, returned when organisers managed to persuade the Council to allow them to host a few push bike trials events there a year. A world round was held there several years ago and organisers are hoping for another world round to come back to the UK. For more information on this up and coming sport and details of how to get into bike trials and when and where the next events will be visit www.biketrialuk.co.uk. this was a very sucsessfull event.

He loves the 2 disc combo. But not as much as I do, now he doesn't moan at me to sort his brakes out anymore. his arms don't seem to pump up now either. He seems to be getting to grips with it, I was out last night with him doing a little bit of street, he is more confident at riding at something now and carrying a bit more speed at things. I was a little worried about him going up a size but so far it is all good news. It is one hell of a bike I would challenge any mod rider not to just be able to get on it and ride well, it is so well balanced and easy to ride. Cheers JP

Little rob has just done his first trial on it, all went wel for about two thirds of the trial he than began to struggle with the extra weight. He did get round and finish with a few knocks and scrapes. He is still only 9 so he will i am sure get the hang of it and grow a little stronger, he is happy with the bike and the big added bonus is that I can play on it without breaking it. Thanks again fred all is well. As for the colours, we had to have what was available as we only got it on Thursday, it will grow on me as well. JP
  18. What a resounding result today was. i am just about to go soak in a bath of smelly radox with a nice Stella. I am chuffed I beat my Nemesis today, Mr Niel (hurman) Raven. Probably only because he buggered his back brake. Robbie went well on his new bike, we had a few tears toward the end as he found the extra weight a bit of an issue and he was worn out. The highlight of my day was watching the one and only Danny Smith giving my bike plenty on the yellow route AMAZING !!! Another rider to make a return to Tykes was Joe Oakley, bloody hell what have they been feeding him on, he is huge now, welcome back the both of you. From what I can gather we had everything just about right, maybe a little long but again the sun shone on sat when we marked out. The rain came and went and came and went again, the gazebo blew away and scratched a car big time OOOOPPPS sorry, then the sun shone it dried up and all was well. I would like to thank Barbara and Brian, Jane and Andy Boyes, all the Boothies. The observers need a big one as well THANK YOU ALL. Well done to all of you finished it was not an easy one. Off for my soak now cos I am in bits. " TARA WERE IS MI STELLA" JP
  19. Yes ali he was there, I bumped into him the other week in Skipton on a night out and bullied him into riding, i never thought he would show up but he did. He rode as i remember him riding , he broke his chain twice, anyway he then asked me if i had a spare chain witch i didn't so he came round with me, rob, and a couple of others and rode my bike. He is still a beast, I never thought my bike would be doing those moves. He came 3rd on yellow route, he is not as fit as he was but he has lost none of his gutsy go for it style. Dan will be back he has said, he will also be at Hook woods in September to keep his masters status. jP

God only knows, it all depends on if he is riding natty or street, dry or wet, muddy or hard pack. He seems to be getting on better with it than his wasp as it is a little longer and that is allowing him to tackle higher steps and hooks it is very steady on the back wheel he can carry more speed into things as well. He is well happy with it so far. We will see how much the little bit of extra weight affects him over a long hard trial tomorrow. I will let you know. I will add some pictures onto his page on the Koxx website when I get some. JP
  21. Sections set, weather booked, Mick the bouncer scriven is camping out up there. Some good long and hard sections for you all but some are nice and steady as well, well they had to be because I am riding. :$ See you all tomorrow, still a shame about the unfortunate clash of trials IMO About 65 entries at the last count so numbers look good. Thanks Barbara, Brian, Boothy, little Boothy, Robbie, mr Boyes and Richard Bell for helping out with the sections. John P
  22. chris Walker is a legend. he is robs hero, (mrs P also has a very unusual liking for him as well ) i think he will be missed by a whole host of people me included, he seems to light up a trial with his riding and his showman ship for the cameras. His style is amazing, a real pleasure to watch, so smooth and yet powerfull. Good luck chris from all the Peacocks, you will as I said be missed and I for one hope you and your dad will be back some day. Football is for footballers and you are a trials rider. No he just hasn't put his lucky ones from when he was in MBUK on it yet. but yes it saves a huge amount. he also runs his tires with no air in em as well as this also saves weight. JP
