i think 2 at a time is the best way, theres less chance of one missing if theres only 2 to be synchronised if you get what i mean. also, the 1 pawl idea wouldn't skip much, but would flex all over the place unless a whole hub would be designed around it IMO
as phil said, it gonna flex biatch, my old one with 3 engaging at a time flexed so much it left ratchet imprints everywhere also, where did u hear about echo hubs engaging one at a time?

echo rim would work with your setup, but my cousts in cnc didn't work very well with an echo rim, gosh knows why. maybe kris holm? similar material to the koxx your running now, so if that works grind wise, then go for a kris holm
