i always use the split-link because joining the chain with a chain tool can never be as strong as when its done in the factory, especially as the kmc split links are mushroomed on the ends. think about pushing a muchroomed pin through a hole that isnt big enough for it, it will make it bigger when its not designed to be widened. when i used the split link, i snapped the chain on a normal link before the split link goes. also, if your scared of it unclipping, a spot of glue will sort that Will
