  1. Hi guys  Well I went for a ride today, having put my bars forwards a few degrees and I like it! They certainly arent sloping forwards, just quite upright I would say. I noticed that manuals were a little harder (probably because Im not used to it yet) but that rolling endos/stoppies were much easier for some reason!!! Maybe I was just having a good day but I could really roll around on the front wheel, lol. Irrelevant to the topic but I sanded my pads and washed my rims and the brakes seemed quite a bit better than they were previous B) Still talking about brakes, one of my pads on the rear is closer to the rim than the other - does this make much difference to the braking power? I dont know whether the piston thing needs moving to the side or whether I have inadvertantly dished my wheel to the side whilst trying to true it?! Thanks, ~Gaz
  2. Hi :D I think I will try my bars a little further forward having looked through the bike pics thread, but If I dont like it it only takes minutes to move them back again! I remember an old old MBUK article where Steve Geal said that swept back bars help lift the front end up , which kind of makes sense. I will report back this afternoon after a ride! Cheers, ~Gaz
  3. Hi guys, I was out on bike today and my thumb joints/ wrists are a little sore. I didnt do any real drops as I have a pulled muscle in my back so I was literally riding and practsing my balance etc. Im not sure whether this may have something to do with the angle of my bars, or whether its just my puny wrists still getting used to a rigid bike! They are Easton EA 70's and I have them slightly sloping backwards towards me. I know your bike setup is a personal thing but is there a general trend in trials to have your bars sloping towards or away from you? Cheers, ~Gaz
  4. :) Great video - I really like how you can just hop straight up (tap) things with virtually no run up! Amazing! Great style you have there! :D ~Gaz
  5. (Y) Thats too high.... I made myself a "hop-o-meter" yesterday, so I best get practising if I ever want to hop even half that height :"> ~Gaz
  6. Hey guys! I got my grandads grinder out today and had a nose, it is so loud :P I had a headache afterwards! I had a quick practise on a piece of metal he had lying around. Im going to get a new metal grinding disk soon and then go for it later this week :) Just need to order some new pads in first - Koxx Reds I thought would be good... On a side note, whilst I was there I made myself a "hop-o-meter" :) It looks decent enough ;) Thanks for the advice, ~Gaz
  7. Hi, Ive learnt to lurch the other week, and now Im practising (well not right now as I have injured my shoulder so Im having a week off :) ) doing them up/down steps and small walls. Mainly I want to learn to get up objects smoothly... Have fun! Do you find your back muscles get sore after a while when practising lurches/backhops? ~Gaz
  8. Phew, that is a small weight of my chest! I think I can find some alu lying around, if I can Ill practise on that first though! Cheers, ~Gaz
  9. Thats awesome! Loads of respect for Hans!!! ~Gaz
  10. Does it work well? My grandad has an angle grinder, but he has really put me off using it - he said that it cuts through bricks like cheese and that if I try I will cut my wheel in half!! (Im not that great with my hands - maybe he has a point!) How easy is it to slip up and cut your rim in half / gouge a big chunk out. My grandad thinks its inevitable, is it really that bad? My grandad has suggested taking a wire brush to the rim and thinks that will roughen up the surface? A good idea? How did you find it an_toin3? Thanks ~Gaz
  11. Ha! I didnt see that one coming - seems obvious now though! Thanks! ~Gaz
  12. Hi there! I was wondering if a grind worked better in one direction than another - I guess that answers my question. Im looking to grind my rear rim, in what direction do you do it can anyone explain. I think I know but I want to be 100% before I take a spinning disk to my new bike!! Thanks, ~Gaz
  13. I have just got my trials bike, so I wont be quitting for the winter!!! Although having said that, I will be at uni most of the time (starting in October) so I will be pretty busy in term time (honest!) I just need to get the confidence up to grind my rear rim now :"> ~Gaz
  14. Hi! I just take a small bottle of water in my pocket if Im riding locally and put it on a wall when Im doing trials - If I go further afield I will take a bag with a couple of bottles in :'( I dont see the advantage of a camelbak for trials really, as its so easy to stop and take a bottle out of a bag - its not like a race or anything! (unless your called Martyn or martin of course! lol) ~Gaz
  15. :- We do?! Where!? (Y) Cheers, ~Gaz
  16. Excellent, I can tell you are pleased with what you have accomplished so :P :D (Y) Im learning similar things to you at the moments, lurching up and down curbs/steps, small drops etc, but Im 19 so it isnt as impressive! I agree, make a short vid and show us your moves! I think I would improve faster if I had more confidence, but I dont like risking too much as I ride by myself usually unless my g/f comes to watch... ~Gaz
  17. I vote for the V-12's. My last pair lasted (still work but I sold my old bike so they went with it) over 5 years and still span smooth and straight - and I never serviced them once! I just got V-12's on my new trials bike and they are rediculously grippy. I used to have v-8s along time ago and they were good but they do wear out easier and "feel" a lot cheaper (well they are!) ~Gaz

Owww some of these crashes have made me realise I really shouldnt ride alone! The one where the bmxer knocks his teeth out and big_j's really made me feel "eeeeewwww" ~Gaz
  19. mmm I really like that Fresh Products lever - but I have 2005 maguras :- so it wouldnt work! I hope they update it to work with 2005 models too! ~Gaz
  20. Neat riding! <_< Some very big gaps there!! I liked that first song too, who is it? ~Gaz
  21. Wow, very cool move <_< I still cant figure out how you guys do such big gaps/drops and when you land still keep the front wheel in the air!!? ~Gaz
  22. Ouch :P It was quite a "comical" fall though! At least you got it on camera to chuckle at when your older - when you stop hurting! ~Gaz
  23. Hiya :- I really like your style! Im sure quite a few people on here would like your pictures as there desktop wallpaper if you made them available at higher resoloutions! ~Gaz
