Thanks for the opinions, wow they just keep on coming (Y) :D ~Gareth
-
Argh, just when I finally decide square taper more votes for the opposition (ISIS) come rolling in....! Cheers for your opinion, ~Gareth ps: I have about a week to decide
-
Ouch, darn that must have stung! How long until you were back on the bike? What caused the accident, broken chain or something? Healing vibes if it was recent! ~Gareth
-
Cool, thats the BB coming with my frame, how long on average do these things last for trials if installed properly etc? ~Gaz
-
Good morning guys :D Wow lots of thoughts on this topic! A good mix of opinions too! Hmm I think that the majority are chanting "ISIS!", but as people have mentioned if you just put ST cranks on tight and leave them on they should be fine. The only time I would remove the crankarms would be to change the BB... The cost savings, the fact I would rarely take them off and Im not much into big drops, are all prompting me to take the square tapers :turned: Cheers, ~Gareth
-
Excellent, thanks for that! ~Gareth
-
Thanks for the opinions guys, I think I will go with what Mr Leeson said. Especially as it is £35 cheaper for the BB and about £20 for the crankarms or so which is a tidy saving especially as it is a . :) ~Gareth

Hey guys, what do you recon, square taper vs ISIS crankset. This is the option I have for my Leeson. Mr Leeson himself stated that in his opinion a very tightly wound on square taper crank is superior to ISIS. I believe him as he certainly knows about bikes and engineering. However this is the first time I had heard this! Previous to speaking to Mr Leeson I was sure that square taper was being phased out and had no future. The crankset in question will be a Middlesburn pro trials set, opinions? ~Gareth

*Shuffles in to corner* :"> , lol, meany - I was feeling rather chuffed with myself that I knew the answer to someones question... except by the sounds of it, I didnt :) You can see what I was getting at though I think! ~Gareth

 back! As far as I am aware they are double-triple clamp forks (commonly abbreviated to triple clamp), a clamp above the headtube and one below, each clamp having 3 holes (one for each fork leg, one for the steerer tube). I read his post as asking what type of fork they are, to which I answered :"> ~Gareth
-
Hiya, they are double-triple clamp forks. Yes it is possible to put those on the bikes you mentioned, but whether it would affect the geometry I dont know. Those types of forks tend to be longer and hence slacken the head angle. Due to the extra length they can also put more stress on the headtube of a bike, which is not ideal! There is no need for them for dirt jumping, you will no longer be able to fully cross up or bar spin, they can damage the frame in a crash and, no they wont help you get any higher! I would advise against it personally, ~Gareth

Having never built a wheel, this is just what I have heard, so take this with a pinch of salt: When rebuilding a wheel, you should always use new spokes as they dont take kindly to undergoing tension/no tension/tension again when you rebuild the wheel. Hope that helps! ~Gareth

Hiya! Thanks for your opinion, as I mentioned previously that does sound very tempting, but what if I want to get some extra speed for a streety move or want to go ride trials somewhere closer than 5 minutes away? Being a trials "newbie" how do I know which gear would suit me? Does singlespeed avoid chainslap and make a bike practically silent? There are +ives and -ives for both options and I think perhaps gears win - although I will draw up a chart later and see which has the most positive points! ~Gareth

Good point (N) , Ill have to spend some time on that traschzen (spelling?) site with the video's and watch some trials vids on that Eebygumooli (again spelling!!!) website. Cheers, ~Gareth

Lol that gave me some funny thoughts of me backflipping down the road (N) - I wish! I think I will keep both wheels firmly on the ground and just get my balance up to scratch. It doesnt actually feel "that" heavy, by the way - not compared to my old DH bike at least... ~Gaz
-
Cheers, balancing switch footed - something I have never tried, and something I would never have thought of - sounds a great way of spending some time tommorow (N) ~Gaz

As some of you may know, my old DH rig is sold and Im waiting for a Leeson now (could be two months or so). I have persuaded my girlfriend to let me ride her bike (she is scared of me breaking it - as strictly speaking its her brothers she hasnt paid him for it yet!). Its just a £100 Appolo 24" "Downhill mountain bike" lol, full suspension of course. I dont want to break the bike (or more importantly me!) so what things are suitable to practise on it - preferably stuff that stays on the floor! I had a quick spin before practising fakie/riding backwards things which was fun, but even they were a little dodgy as when I put the front brake on the bike creaks and the forks really flex, and as the backwheel drops it makes a big crack sound! I guess I can practise trackstands... any more suggestions for "safe" trials moves on this bike? Cheers guys, ~Gareth

Thanks, I think im all set with what I want now - just a case of waiting 5-7 days until the money gets from Paypal --> my bank account then I can start ordering! Cheers guys! (N) ~Gareth

Thanks for that, yes I think gears, for now at least - are what I will go for. Any opinions regarding the 2005 maguras or should I really dig out some 2004 models from the depths of some bike shop? What about the standard boosters? ~Gareth EDIT: Spelling
-
Thanks for the replies guys! For convenience and compatibility I think I will stick with the Middlesburn crankset. Ill just get a cheapo front 24" inner tube then, and perhaps a IRC KUJO 24*2.35 tire on the rear with the nokian DH tube, and a DMR tire on the front. Ill be getting the wheels from chain reaction so costs include the wheelbuild etc, the "Sun Usa Rhyno Lite XL 32h Black 24inch" rims will be decent though? Im having trouble locating the 2004 maguras, the 2005 ones should be okay though with some decent pads? The standard boosters should be okay or not? Regarding going singlespeed - that is very tempting but Im not sure what ratio I need yet, and I want to get around and take it on small rides with my g/f as well (she is learning to ride a bike - literally!) Oh also, I have seen a Rohloff trials chain 8 speed somewhere - its about £35 or so, worth it over a Kool chain? Thanks, ~Gareth
-
Ha! Good riding, very impressive! It was a little cheesy though (IMO) but very talented guys and obviuosly a ton of effort went in to that. Thanks for sharing! ~Gaz

Just sold mine! Im eagerly anticipating recieving my trials bike in around 2 months! The reason I decided to go rigid and sell my fully was because all I was doing was manuals, hops and balancing on things - and wishing it didnt have a 42t ring and chain device so I could risk trying to hop up that rock.... Cant wait! ~Gareth

Hi guys! Im on the waiting list for a Leeson Fluid 24 inch trials/street frame, and have busied myself this afternoon since my money from the sale of my old bike came through. I have compiled a list of all the parts I need (forgot anything? :"> ) . If some of you would be kind enough to have a nose through and see if anything looks out of place (like too weak/heavy/wont fit/etc) that would be awesome. Im also struggling to find a decent chain and where to get it from? And also brake pads for Maguras for an unground rim (or is grinding a neccesity for good "grab"?) - I should have mentioned - the rims I chose are Sun Usa Rhyno Lite XL 32h Black 24inch - up to the job? The riding the bike is aimed at will be mainly street trials with some manuals and spins etc thrown in for good measure :- Here is the spec list so far :HERE Help would be most appreciated, as this is a SIGNIFICANT investment for me! Please point out any areas I have skimped on that I really shouldnt have! Cheers! ~Gareth

Great vid, nice Leeson too :- I wasnt too keen on the music but it did fit the video really well I have to admit! Trials has progressed so much since I bought tricks and stunts when it first came out (when I was last into trials!) - riding like what you guys were doing would have made the front cover of MBUK! for sure! ~Gareth

Hi, excellent video! Good quality, great riding and cool music :- , Ahh I just want to get my trials bike now! ~Gareth
