  1. I think it's amazing the amount of stuff that gets said about Ryan Leech. At the end of the day the only trials names I would really recognise is his and the guys from Dirty tricks & cunning stunts.... My conclusion is that noone oout there is doing what Ryan Leech is doing - ie. taking trials and giving it an audience - by that I mean that people watch those videos who may have no intrest in trials and their jaw drops - They'll watch it again too.... Now how many people in trials are producing videos as successfully as that? The very question that started this topic is an indicator to just how successful Ryan Leech has been. Oh - and as for a noisy bike on the videos - is that really a measurement of his riding? I mean, he could have a zoom mike on his video camera that exagerates what the camera focuses on (I notice this about my own) and at the end of the day, if he thought that would be a true criticism I'm sure he would've edited it out. The only thing disappointing about Manifesto is that it's very short.

    Wtf?!

Yeah - it was the other way around many years ago, with fuel being cheaper in the 6 county side.... As for overreacting - I was disappointed to see that I had 2 send 2 emails twice and still have only received 1 reply. I'll admit to being impatient. I'll admit to having high standards about certain things. But I don't accept that it's lazy to not pick up the phone - I mean come on, it's not hard to reply to an email either - as for being swamped.... I get swamped but I deal with it by filters - it's not that hard in fairness. I understand people being busy but i pretty much measure these things on how the same problems affect me - I deal with it and don't understand how someone else can't - like I said it's not difficult. As I've already said, I will be going somewhere else for the parts - Echo Control seems to be the way to go - it's not a big deal either way, I just don't like the idea of having to wait over 2 weeks for an answer and having to ask the question 4 times.... So I won't....
  3. To be fair, what Chris says is true - lots of times the components aren't necessarily what you actually would choose yourself... as for colours - a pal of mine has that exact one that you've displayed in the pic (obviously not that one before anyone's a smartass!)... and it looks really well I think. Other kona colours kind of suck. dunno if the stinky comes in other colours but kona have a light blue and a creamy colour that gets all smudged up the moment you touch it - and light blue's a bit gay really isn't it!? That pal has just come back from Morzine and put the bike through it's paces bigtime - hasn't let him down at all where another friend on his Scott Nitrous had a nightmare holiday for parts.... Stinky really is as much as you'll need unless you are doing big big drop offs...
  4. You won't ever need for anything better than a Kona Stinky - buy one and don't regret saving nearly a grand....

    Wtf?!

Sorry to disagree with most of you but I won't be ringing. I don't believe it's good enough to not answer emails when you're in business. I'm sure they've read my mail and ignored it or meant to get back to it - I don't think that's good enough. If I actually place an order for something I'm sure it'll be sent and arrive promptly but I'm looking for something not listed on the website. As for CRC - make an effort man! they don't have 4 bolt boosters. Bikedock - have been an absolute pleasure to deal with. Bought my bike from them - arrived in 24hrs with 5STG postage and replied to any email I sent by the following day. Onza carbon booster - I won't be sending any money toward them if there is a viable alternative, there's other boosters out there and I think I'll go for an echo one or something else.... Their tough - if you can't run a business you loose business when people have the choice to go somewhere else.

    Wtf?!

no way - I mailed to ask a question and waited a few days, then forwarded the mail again saying that I had previously mailed them.... I finally got a response but then same again with a second enquiry and I still have no reply from them on that. I'm not an impatient person but it's not a good sign of customer support when you can't get a response to an email - and being swamped with email is no excuse, I get a sh*t load of email every day here at work and I get through it.... I don't think I'll be ringing either.... I'll just spend my money somewhere else
  7. Canned

    Wtf?!

They hardly have the manners to reply to an email! I'm in Ireland so I'm not about to go ringing if I have a query... besides, it's no way to run a business to IGNORE CUSTOMER EMAIL! Unbelievable! I was gonna buy one of the onza 4 bolt boosters but now I think I'll go for something else recommended on here like an echo one cos I won't be discussing anything with supercycles ever again! disappointed! (Y)
  8. prob should have posted this in here first... http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=60916 anyone got any words of wisdom for me!? Tony
  9. Ok - as per msg board etiquette I've already done the search! Found no answer to this though... Just questions on pros and cons of rim drilling. Does it reduce strength? Is the decrease in weight something that's going to make a difference at all levels or is it something that has no marked benefit at beginner/intermediate levels? Is the drilling itself best left to the pros? Does Rim tape prevent all movement of the tube through the drilling or does it allow some movement? If there is an amount of movement in the tube through the drilling does it affect how you set your tyre pressures? Am I asking too many questions!? :P
  10. Hmm.. I'm on a deore rear hub (as standard with spec 1 Trex) and won't bother changing untill something expensive breaks! So the full kit would mean: appropriate cranks, front freewheel, A BB that's long enough to take it (what length?) A locked out freehub or new fixed hub Am I right with that shopping list!?
  11. I did a search but can't find anything - surprised at that cos I thought someone would've asked before.... Right, so... I'm curious about front freewheels and wonder if I have the idea right in my head! Is it a case of swaping a fixed front chainwheel for a freewheel and fitting a fixed/locked hub at rear? If this is the case ca you do this on both singlespeed setupas and cassette setups? What are the advantages? Is it cheaper? Is it more maintenance friendly? Does it help with lifetime on rear hubs? Sorry if this has been covered before! Also about tyres.... It seems that all bikes come with the rear tyre larger than the front. This makes sense to me.... I've noticed a few pics where people have what looks like a 2.5" tyre up front also and I'm wondering if people see the benefit in this? Thanks for all your help! Tony
  12. an interesting point made here: http://www.cyclingplus.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=65544 Casualties caused by cyclists on pavements v's cars MOUNTING pavements!
  13. No offence meant to anyone who's given advice but few of the above are real solutions. Seb, at the end of the day, you're ok. I'm glad it didn't become even more serious. Throwing a bike at a person like this? - YOU'D be the one ending up done for assault..... "Defending yourself" is much the same and I understand perfectly why someone wouldn't lash back in such an attack - the initial shock of it even happening for a start. It's not advice really, well maybe it is... But maybe sometimes the best thing to do in a lot of these situations is just ride away (assuming you'd have the time to do so) Big deal if your pride gets hurt - you live another trialsing day safe in the knowledge that this dickhead will someday try it on with someone and get their own back. Karma - it DOES come around.... Tony
  14. Sorry if it's inappropriate to post here but facts getting lost in main section.... Looking for advice on value for money SQUARE taper cranks to suit my T-Rex. I'm hoping to hear of a gem of a set for £50/60 as all I'm hearing so far is "buy middleburn" It may be good advice but I'm not doing big gaps etc yet - I can't even stay up on my back wheel for god sake! :( Thanks! Tony

    Cranks

They look SWEET... but... Need square taper! POO! anyone got any experience of: From Tavcycles? It's their "cranky deal" "World famous cranky deal has been around for a long time and still is a very good trials crank. Made from FSA pro cranks; lightweight alloy arms. Shimano 22t lightweight chainring along with DMR stainless bashguard to hold off the rocks or double kenisis stainless bashguards to do twice the job. 175mm length. (Item may vary)"

    Cranks

Jesus lads! The price on those suggestions seem absolutely mad! I guess you guys see them as value for money cos they've lasted you but I was thinking more in the line of these: Anyone got any opinions? They're £45

    Cranks

Can anyone recommend a set of cranks to suit then? I'd be tempted to go ISIS but money's tight so it's a value for money set of squares for me! Tony

    Cranks

Hello all, The non drive crank on my T Rex is constantly working loose. It looks like I'm missing something but can't figure out how. On the drive side there is a kind of black cover surrounding the actual bolt into BB but it looks like I've lost it on the other side (the first time I noticed the looseness it had managed to get quite loose) Is this a critical part? It only seems to be a kind of "decorative" surround of the crank to BB bolt..... Is this why my crank keeps working loose? Tony
  20. Ok, so we've all seen the bike pics thread and been jealous of other people's wheels but what about injuries?! There must be a faction of trialsers out there with a morbid facination of stiches so let's see the pics of the holes people have put in their shins! Tony
  21. Ok - I'm not long started trialsing and I'm mostly just messing out the front of my house at bunny hops, low sidehops, endos, pivots and getting up on the back wheel. I've been getting a bit of wrist pain and have been putting it down to the riding position on my Trex - so I loosened the bars and tilted them back just a few degrees - so that when I stand up on the bike and look down at the bars they look straight (as in you can't see any of the bend in them) This made a big difference to my wrists and made me feel I could get my weight back further on the bike - Definitely felt more at home on it. I can understand why I'd get this effect but I'm wondering if I'm going the right way about it? Is it ok to tilt back the bars a little or should I be going for a shorter stem to keep the bars as close to 90degrees as possible? Tony
  22. It was actually yourselves I bought the bike from Tony Canning from Limerick.... I've a feeling it's the 31.8mm one (I think it's a 100mm length). I'll confirm over the weekend. The clamp size is the diameter at the top of the forks yes? Tony
  23. Does anyone know what length the standard item is?
  24. H'lo folks, Done a search for this and can't find anything on stock stems. I'm thinking of changing mine to a shorter stem with about the same amount of rise. I have the standarad stem that came with my 05 onza trex. Can anyone advise me on a 20mm shorter stem with about the same rise? Thanks! Tony

    Boosters

But the control booster is the same price as the onza carbon one.... Wondering if there's cheaper ones out there or do tartybikes have all that's worth looking at? Tony
