I've not, and I'm keen to. Any volunteers? Do you know what tends to go on the brakes when they're run with water? At a guess it would be aluminium corrosion from tap water, which Phluid should stop. One of the main ingredients in Phluid is distilled from mineral oil, but that doesn't mean much with regard to Echo brakes without actually testing it!
-
If you keep your brake at 90 degrees, perhaps. Otherwise, cooking oil is sloow.
-
James, I'd just use water for now (the temperature's risen so it shouldn't freeze until we get another cold spell). It'll also be easier to rinse through with Phluid vs any oil-based fluids.
-
James, there aren't really any comparable products on the market. Aside from water/antifreeze/vodka/champagne/beetle juice, or standard mineral oils, there's nothing out there suitable which is why it got developed. I'm pleased to see positive reviews around and that it's doing its job. Luke, I'd be more than happy to offer refunds for parts or products that don't meet their claims, but there's been enough testing and development to be assured that it just works. I can't guarantee that it'll add an extra half rotation to your 360s or be a suitable glazing agent on roast duck, it will make your brake feel nicer and protect it. It does, however taste quite cherry-y, but don't drink it! I did that part of the testing myself so you don't have to.

For now, let's just say I'm investigating weak points. I could still really do with more broken frame pics.

I like how the only sign of frustration he shows is that small tap on the leg. He looks so happy when he makes it too!
-
I've been considering the 1.5" tapered steerer myself recently too. Forks definitely seem one of the areas on the bike that hasn't seen any innovation in a while. I'm also surprised it's taken this long - good on Rockman for being the first to do it in trials (although what did Mission not do right? )

Yeeah, I enjoyed that, some quality bails. The guy with long hair on the black koxx is the Czech slopestyle champion I think. That week was his first back on a trials bike in almost 2 years! He looked like he knows what he's doing and sure knows how to crash. Dressler was so much fun - I've warned Lukas & Josef to prepare for the invasion of the British I can see it becoming the new Koxx Days! I didn't really want to try that gap and really knew that no matter how much effort put in, it was a long shot.. peer pressure ey. I proposed it for Kenny to have a go, he asked how old I was and said that he used to do that kinda stuff a long time ago. Really looking forward to the full video.

Of course it's subjective, but I have found brakes that run Phluid do feel smoother and snappier than brakes with just water or car antifreeze mix. Possibly the placebo effect going on? The corrosion inhibitor really is the dogs danglies too - we spent quite a bit of time sourcing something that I was sure would be best for the job. Obviously there's the benefit of it being in a pre-mixed solution in a container that's ready to go, rather than having buy the parts and mix it up yourself, with the knowledge that it's been properly designed for purpose to boot.

Who it's done by is pretty irrelevant - what you can draw from such tests all down to the repeatability and the actual data given with the claims. In Deng's case (or what we saw at least) we really didn't see much, although it could've well been completely spot on for all we know..

More than enough pics thanks, Mark. :wink2: A link would be suffice next time I'm a big fan of the Born Ultimatum, some nice ideas and thought gone into that. Shame about the geo though! I'd love to do a test of frames such as the Because vs frames like the Born, Koxx Skies, etc. I think a rig is in order.. watch this space. .

Wow, there were some lines there where you really saw him come into his own. The crankflip whilst on the beam was particularly sick! It was obvious at first how directly Danny Mac's riding appears to've influenced him, but there was some really unique stuff there. Nice

Adam Read's Interview - Tartybikes' Facts And Figures
Phatmike replied to TrashZen's topic in Trials Chat
Le Tarte au Vingt, non? 40% export is a great figure. Bet the tax man loves you guys. -
Yeah.. like it! Loving the initial spec list, great use of tools right there. Can you run 22t on those cranks? You could have a play with gear ratios to achieve a neater chain tension (if you really wanted). This'll be of some use; http://www.machinehead-software.co.uk/bike/chain_length/chain_length_calculator.html

I've only ever heard great things about Phats in the wet. There's quite a bit around the forum if you search, certainly worth considering if you want the ultimate all-rounder pad.

Well it's not, with a fixed front cog you will always have a few teeth (3-4) that will be taking the majority of load during normal moves. These few teeth will always wear faster than any teeth on a front freewheel. Whether or not it makes a massive difference is one thing, but it will make a difference. Roadies alternate 3 chains throughout the life of their sprockets to ensure even and matched wear on each component. They simply last longer that way.

K124 land? Am I dreaming? This is something I've envisaged for a long time, I'm lost for words at the sight of this article. Well done Vince.
-
Aye, I'd always recommend using a bit of grease or wet-lube on all the pistons, just to be sure it moves freely. The Phluid is lubricating, however. One of the main ingredients in Phluid is also a Sex Lube - one of the reasons it just feels so good!

I always enjoy comps as I tend to hang around with people that also go for fun and to socialise. It makes a nice change having sections laid out to ride, rather than being free to ride anything - it pushes you to do lines you wouldn't normally and really expands your skillset. I'm naturally competitive and always try to ride to the best of my abilities when there, but I always put enjoying the event before letting any negative, over-competitive mindsets get in the way! Doing MAD demos has meant that I've missed a lot of events I'd have otherwise attended over the last couple of years, but I've gotta earn a living. Doing shows has been just as much fun as comps, but both mean you get to travel around and meet people. I'll definitely be making more of an effort to attend more next year and will be sponsoring as many events as we can afford!

Wow, that was an awesome video all round. Amazing to see a kid so young with such a wachable style! Toni's jump at 3:35 was phenomenal - wasn't expecting him to go up to that top rock... Anyone else hoping he'd flair off the tree?
-
Cheers Tic, all sorted.

That's beautiful! Awesome work.

Gary ordered some pads and is the most northerly rider that has, so we sent him a sample of Phluid to try out in the arctic conditions up there. We'd go up ourselves but it's far too cold... As a heads up, Phluid is available now. http://store.phatworks.co.uk/index.php/products/product/phatphluid/
