I think thats why some chains have "mushroom" pins to prevent the pins from coming out

Get an old cup and screw it in gently, if theres a great deal of friction between the two, then chances are theyll screw up your new BB when you put it in If the dent has removed a bit of the thread, it shouldn't be too bad. But if the dent has caused like a crater (with some of the thread coming out and over the top of the hole) its probably best to pick it off with something softer than the metal i.e. your fingers

Yeah I'ev done the same saved me a few quid I suggest you try the longer bolt first, If that doesn't work Helicoil it. Basically you tap to M6, then insert a steel insert which brings the sizing back down to M5, If that doesn't work You'll have an M6 thread in your frame, buy an M6 bolt and use that

Well I had a similar problem a while ago, and it was the stem had loosened. But if you've tightened that (and its the right sized headset ) Im guessing its the pads
