As in the title really, anyone up for riding on saturday?
-
Thought i'd show you lovely people my newest creation, my lovely Base TA 26! Its intended as a streety trials bike that i hope to use for some other fun bike related things too (hence gears and suspension). So far seems pretty lovely to ride, although a tad heavier than i'm used to..... (I've got a set of black rigid Ashton forks too incase i feel the need for rigid trials again!) Using the scientific art of the bathroom scales i believe it weighs around 14kg Wheelbase is around 1045 with those forks, ill post the spec if anyone's interested in it. Enjoy!

I always found that when doing slightly more high speed pedal gaps etc that 175mm cranks were too long and i couldn't pedal comfortably, so i stick with 170. I guess i lose on some leverage, but its a lot more comfortable when i'm not doing static tricks

Planning on riding Herne Bay starting somewhere around 4 in the afternoon,on into the evening, if anyone's interested?
-
I just bought a pink frame, and am planning on building it up with as much black as humanly possible. Will let you know how it turns out!

Yes i am sure. At the points your talking about the object is touching the ground which brings friction into play and alters the speed. Horizontal velocity is not changed or made bigger just because you happen to be falling at the same time, you will still be travelling across the ground horizontally at the same speed. It's also impossible to keep going through the air horizontally at the same speed, as every gap you do is affected by air resistance. Eventually you will reach the point where you stop moving horizontally, and just keep falling but not going forwards. But as i said earlier, the height you would need for this to happen would be ridiculous! Your right, the flight path of the combined centre of mass of the rider and bike will be parabolic as neither is affected by any external forces other than gravity (except air resistance which always complicates everything). However it would still be very hard to use this work anything out because your really interested in where the tyre is, not the combined centre of mass.....Then of course you need to think about where the centre of mass is in relation to the tyre once you've landed, and how fast you're going, to see if you'll be able to hold the gap or fall off backwards. There are really too many assumptions to work it all out seriously.

I'm doing Engineering and i pretty much agree with you there so don't worry! As i said above you'd need to take into account body movement during the gap ( like if you push the bike forward etc). Also i'm fairly sure that although muscle freshness needs to be taken into account, its impossible to measure! Horizontal velocity is not related to vertical velocity. No matter how high you are, you will only ever go as far as you can physically kick away from the wall. So yes you're right, eventually you will reach a point where extra height won't help you any more, although i suspect that at this height doing a drop gap would be ridiculous anyway!
-
In theory yes its possible but you would have to perform exactly the same movements when doing a drop gap to when you did that flat gap, and nobody does that! Its easy to work out that sort of thing with balls etc but with a person on a trials bike, with a constantly moving centre of gravity it would be very difficult. My best advice is just go out there and try it and have fun, and if you don't want to, then don't do it! Come back to it when you're more confident that you'll make it

Thanks but thats not quite what im after, and i wont be building this from scratch.... That's good to know as i'm thinking along similar lines to those!
-
Thanks, but i'm actually a wierd person and like bb sink, my trials bike currently is a giant, with a bb of about -5 or -10, and i love it! I was thinking of a base TA26 frame, as its short with short chainstays, and with a steep head angle which will be good for the forks. Plus i might get it in pink!
-
I'm thinking maybe these look a potential candidate, but i'll be the first to admit i don't know much about suspension! http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26539 Any opinions? By the way thanks for your replys so far, i want as many opinions as i can get

I'm planning on building a bike soon that will be reasonable for trials, but also enough of a normal bike to be used for other fun bike related activities too..... As a result i'm thinking of some smallish travel front suspension forks, but don't know anything about them, particularly when they're used in this way..... I've a definite top end price of 200 pounds, but ideally would prefer to not spend any more than 150, can i get what i need for this much? I'm just hoping to make use of anybodys experience with doing something similar to this? Thanks Oh i forgot to mention, i'm hoping to find some with v mounts as otherwise i'll have to buy more parts than i'd like.....

Awesome vid, really enjoyed that! You've inspired me to try a variation on what you did at 1:21, nice one

Its like all those tricks that you think would be awesome and fun to do, but never bring yourself to try, all combined into one video! Brilliant stuff

Steel Trials Frames, Good Or Bad? (and Who Makes Them)
gilly replied to edmondraptor's topic in Trials Chat
My Giant has 405 mm chainstays, and its fine to ride...... -
Me and Tommy D are thinking of exploring Bournemouth sometime starting in the morning on thursday, if anyone's interested?
-
Wow! There's not really much else i can say about that it was awesome! I think i'm going to go watch it again!
-
I've snapped a pair of them too, but they're so awesome i bought some more! I love these bars and they do take a lot of abuse before they'll go
-
Haha yes it certainly is! Home-made too! Well spotted

It already has been Thanks for the comments so far people! Its great to have some feedback, and was a very fun day!

Yep my ramsgate senses are definitely tingling!

Looks like Tommy D aint coming but i might still show my face....Jason lemme know if you're going and what train youre getting?
-
Me and Tommy D have returned to Kent from sunny southampton for the easter holidays and are planning on riding Ramsgate tomorrow. We would be honoured to be joined by anyone else if you're about? Lets say 11 at the wooden benches outside those little arcades on the seafront? Hopefully see some people tomorrow!?

That was me, and thank you! It would have been nice to make a full on video, but Tom insists on repeatedly hurting himself recently, so it shall probably have to wait a couple of months now....At least it'll be an excuse to ride more to get more footage!
