Enlarger? I'm already rubbing cream into the leather bellows of my plate camera! Now where's my magnesium powder...?

All entries in by 01/01/06?
-
If you're read this far and posted, go back up and read the rules I've added. I'm sure we can have little impromptu photo comps along the way, but for this first one, lets keep it trials related!
-
So who's interested in entering a photo comp in the same vein as the video comps of years gone by? If there's enough interest, then I can try and sort out some prizes (though don't count on it). Perhaps do a couple of categories too. One for action shots, and one for non-action. Who's in? EDIT: Entry rules are propsed as follows, please discuss: There will be two categories; action and non-action. Action will be as it says. This is for the shots of riders going for moves. Images should have a punch, and an impact to them, demonstrating in a single photograph how great trials riding can be. Non-action is for anything else. Pictures that show non-riding aspects of trials, from still life of a bashring, the people of trials, or the damage which ensues. Editing is free, anything goes. There will be a maximum pixel dimension for the longest edge of the picture of 1024 pixels. Images must be of a suitable quality. That doesn't mean super-high pixel cameras and pro lenses, just that it musn't be rubbish. For the web, a 2 megapixel camera phone may just squeek in, but video captures are right out. Given the potential high quality of entries, this must be considered. Judging will be by poll as per video competitions of old. Users should consider quality of the image (including the technical 'correctness' of the exposure, etc..), the composition, and the impact of the image. The shot can be of a big or small move (for the action category) but big riding tends to have more impact. There will be a second award based on votes via PM to me for 'competitors choice' which will be the best action, and best non-action shots as voted for by the other people who enter the competition. Details will be sent around to those who enter after the closing date. Images can be from any time, not ones captured specifically for this competition. Oh, and you have to have taken the image you submit. Entries sent to me by 01/01/06, where I will put up a series of topics with a poll in each. Winner goes through. Details with each image must include a name for the image and your real and TF name. Any extra details will be posted alongside the image.

Photo's From Boston Ride. Wally, Todge And Sam
F-Stop Junkie replied to Joe Papasnap Maher's topic in Videos
A photographer's ride would be a bit pointless in itself, but it's a good way for riders to get some good snaps of themselves, and also for a few of us keen photo lads to get around and talk f-stops, iso and noise to our hearts content. I'm up in Sheffield, but have car, will travel - to an extent! Photo contest? All up for that! How do we organise it? -

I think one or two are out of focus, but heavy compression makes it look much worse! Well spotted on the dust Rob, hadn't spotted that at all. Otherwise pretty good. Are they cropped at all? there's a lot of missed edges of wheels and so on... Perhaps we should organise a photographers ride one day? Only problem is we'd all be taking pictures, and no-one would be riding! (Y)) -
Damn Wayne, you're good. It was Cesar... And I hope you mean Chris's camera
-
Umm, both. Some need a tiny crop, some of the ones above (the bigger ones) are actually as they came out the camera. Mind you, I don't show the ones where I was tight and I didn't get all the rider in shot! (see the Tarty mod bloke above)
-
You mean the Magura lever? Does it really offend you that much? It's a brake lever ferchristssake! Note, it also matches the bashring and hubs so it's actually colour co-ordinated!

:P--> QUOTE(joe b @ Oct 28 2005, 10:56 AM) ← Nice pics man!! ^_^ Waynio is a nutter. That spool was wet at f**k too... <_< It was dry and sunny on the Saturday....
-
Was Saturday. I didn't get many shots of Akrigg, but just hadn't grabbed one for here.

Just buy good cable cutters. I bought a pair of Shimano ones. The best money can buy. Will last me for ever, and save hassle every time I need to cut a cable. Yes, I know they're expensive, but after working in a shop and snipping cables without thinking twice, it has to be done. You'll only pay the money once, never think about it again for the rest of your life.

Pretty good, but the colours have gone astray. Scanned from prints perhaps? Could do with a tweak in photoshop to bring them back. Good stitching, but pretty tame pics otherwise. The wallride shot could have done with a higher shutter speed too.

A rucksack full of disposable cameras. Good quality, and no worries about losing them <_< Canon digital.
-
Ok, here's a few I snapped. Business first... Surly's rim. 26" but 65mm wide. Nice construction too! Nurse! Arty. but I like it. It takes Thomas to pull off a shot I've wanted for a while... Ben Savage in moody back lighting, showing off the orange highlights of the new Koxx Cheers Marty! Waynio trying a 180 gap to front hook... Looney.

Umm, yes. Kind of. There are issues relating to DSPs, and lens quality, but the big difference with a digital SLR is the sensor is much bigger than that of a point and shoot type digital camera. For long, boring reasons, this means that images taken with a digital SLR will be able to withstand greater upsizing, contain more shadow detail, and have far, far better DoF control than a digital compact. Here endeth the dullness (Y))
-
I would add a couple of things here. In the digital camera world megapixels jump all the time. My Canon is 'only' 6 megapixels, and you can go upto 16.7 megapixels before you get into silly pro-kit, but I know my camera holds up. It's not a leader, but it holds up. Quality kit has a tendancy to last when it comes to results... However, given the chance, I will always work to the highest quality at a master stage. Results can be downsampled, but it's hard to upsample well! Plus something shot in HD now will look better, for longer. Stick to MiniDV, and in three years time, it will look rubbish, just as Hi-8 does now. Finally, some people only care about moves and lines when it comes to vids/pics, others appreciate high quality. People like myself and trialsmedia take pride in what we do, and push to present our work the best we can. Some may not feel it's needed, but we do it to try and make things better or more interesting. Better that than use camera phones for everything ;-)
-
Not bad given the circumstances, not bad at all. Some are a little too blurred, even for me! But best of a bad day, certainly.
-
Once you downsize for the web, don't you loose the resolution anyway? How many vids released are 625 pixels high?
-
The Ulitmate X DVD does have the best crash from FMX ever! When superman seatgrabs go wrong... :))
-
Fisheye ones don't work, the lens is just way too low quality, and the effect isn't used in any way that adds to the shots. The side on Toxsin shot is passable, and the Matt Burrows ones are good. Not awesome, but good.
-
Can't see them. It's only showing one broken link icon too...
-
God, it's 1998 all over again!
-
True Ad, but Ben could ride a wheelie bin and still put in a competitive performance!
-
The other ways to avoid red-eye are: Have high ambient light Use bounced flash Have your flash as far from the lens as possible. External flash units mounted on a hotshoe will reduce this problem - I never worry about it. Otherwise use remote flash triggers and have the flash any which where.
