  1. I was thinking of closing this thread, but I want to see the aftermath Please though, remember this is a family forum! Keep it clean...
  2. careful what you say about Dave, remember, it's Dave who makes the earth spin just by running on the spot. Dave Marshall - The Chuck Norris of TF.
  3. Dave Marshall - toughest man on TF.
  4. I'd agree with the tricross to be honest. Maybe a second layer of bar tape and change the XC tyres for wide road tyres .
  5. Oxford is one thing, Portsmouth is quite another! Especially as I have to be back by midnight for work... (and before my Focus turns into a pumpkin) Cadwell Park tomorrow, but thanks for the encouragement!
  6. Well, good luck. It'd be good to see some proper old school riding again. Check this out for old school... trials1993.wmv
  7. I've got a rare free weekend, a camera bag, and a desire to go and take photos of... something. Seeing as I'm rubbish at landscapes (unless there's a car in front of them) does anyone know any events taking place this weekend? Anything (preferably not a million miles from South Yorkshire) like a carnival, festival, motorsport events, group rides... Any ideas?
  8. I think I learnt about trials from Hans Rey, but way back when all the regular mountain bike press had was either Hans Rey (who did the unthinkable) or Jez Avery/Paul Hudson who were really trick riders. It was really Martyn Ashton and Martin Hawyes who got me into trials, showing that normal guys on normal bikes could do it. Without them, a lot of us wouldn't be here, and I know I certainly owe a lot to them.
  9. I'd heard that we were actually higher than 9th...
  10. Ah bugger. Been there, done that... A whole morning of TRA shots at ISO 1600, and I just couldn't work out why the shutter speeds were in the thousandths of a second... Surely you could fix/tone down in Photoshop? Manual flash right? Learn E-TTL. If you're using manual exposure - and I see you are - then E-TTL is great when used right. Why get photos wrong when the camera can help you? Plus there's nothing wrong with on-camera flash for fill. I can entirely understand. One word. Crop I've got a feeling these shots are straight out the camera? Obviously Adam you haven't seen Tim's other shots, or his contributions in the photomatography thread? It's a bit of both. If you're going to put in the time and effort, buy the kit, and have an eye for it that Tim has, why not try and capture the action and take a great photo?
  11. I think these are a bit hit and miss... Too much wide angle, distortion with several with bad composition or too much dead space to the top or side of the image. Plus the flash is too much in some images, not enough on others. And what's going on with the saturation??
  12. Is it possible to design a section that favours one bike or the other? Absolutely. It's therefore essential that the sections either favour neither, or they balance so that 20" are favoured on some, 26" on others. Of course, people will always bitch that it's not in their favour, that the other bike would have been easier, but that's life. The bigger problem is that it isn't one person who lays out all competitions. I can imagine, especially at an international level, where a section layerouterer has more experience of one wheel size than the other, and unconciously puts a bias in. I think there's also a problem that riding standards are so high that sections in both red and yellow are both technically and physically demanding, so the results often have a leading group, a couple of other groups around the same score, then a number of high scores. Competitions should be a challenge, but trials in the UK cover everyone from the beginner to the fat lapsed rider to multiple world champions. Can we still say that National events should be like half a dozen world rounds? I don't know the answer here, just some thoughts for the mix.
  13. Ponds Forge... If you've agreed to pay for 9 months, then you owe them for 9 months.
  14. This might not touch on everyone here, but jazz trumpeter, chairman of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and voice of my childhood has passed away. Full obituary here A terrible, sad loss and a bona fide legend.
  15. With my mod hat on, careful what you say here.
  16. Jet! Then Lightning, and then Scorpio in the later series. AWWOOOOOGGAAAAA!
  17. A couple of bans, and a couple of warns. This thread has gone far enough.
  18. I bought Chainspotting off Amazon on DVD for next to nothing... Very chuffed, and still such a good watch. The riding might not impress some people these days, but the whole thing is just awesome. The music takes me right back. Buy it here for £5.97 It's all 11 years old. That's scary. I also have this on my wall:
  19. It's great that a band does a banjo heavy middle eight...
  20. If you're in America. Or pounds. If you're in Britain.
  21. JFTB just pointed me at this... What's going on? Updated my codecs, but just sound and black?
  22. £400, and you're a noob? How's about the Canon G9? It's a compact camera, no extra lenses or flash to buy, but with manual modes you can learn with, and then decent resale prices if/when you want to upgrade to a full SLR.
