The old shimano LX BB with the solid axle (now UN54) is bombproof and will last you years, if youre after something a bit lighter then one of the old XT hollow axle UN72 is an option. Failing that the viz hollow axle BB is an option. If you happen to chance upon one of the old hope titanium BBs on ebay then grab it if you can, super light and rediculously strong

When on the back wheel try to get your front wheel higher and elbows a bit more bent, this will move your centre of gravity over the rear axle and mean you can concentrate on your rear wheel positioning more than keep the bike on the back wheel
-
Once youve hit it from the top (with the obligatory piece of wood) then try knocking the forks upwards again, bouncing the front wheel on the ground is normally enough. The wedge ring and top race/bearing retainer should now be sticking proud of the top headset bearing cup and you should be able to ligthly tap the top race off the bottom of the wedge ring. Just twatting it one from the top will only jam the wedge ring further once its started moving up the steerer tube

Back when I started riding trials (99/00 I think) I had a stock shimano hub and it skipped occasionally but the lack of engagement made it quite hard to progress, I forked out and got a hope ti-glide and it was a f**king revelation Ok you couldnt trust in one these days and a proII/king/decent ffw is way better but compared to other hubs available on the market it was about as good as it got Get a new freewheel with decent engagements and you will be far more comfortable on the back wheel because you can make smaller, quicker adjustments with the pedals.

Too right, I run d521s on my santacruz and theyre still going strong 10 years on, never needed tensioning or truing. Running an xc517 on the front of my trials bike, very light and plenty stong enough for my riding, I try not to be a basher though The quality of mavic rims is far superior compared to ANY trials rim currently out.

Ive always had square taper and never rounded a crank or BB, neither have I snapped an axle. Currently using a hope ti square taper BB with my middleburns and Im not in the least bit concerned about it, 6al4v has a yeild strength of over double that of chromoly - the whole BB weighs 194g

My fsa orbit extreme is still going strong after 10 years of use (xc/light dh/jump/trials) its light, low stack height and the bearings are still relatively smooth

Get it wet and it turns to oil.... Unless you have a HUGE bit on the engraver then it will take you forever to get a decent result, also chances are it may not be rough enough.

I had a 185 bb7/SD7 rear disk on my triton (couldnt fit the 203 in there because the disk hit the frame ) and it was as inur said, adequate if youre not relying on the rear brake. Mine was set up perfectly, the disk properly bedded and it just would not hold on the edges of walls That said the bite was pretty good for a rear disk but the hold was probably about on par with koolstop reds on a smooth rim in the dry. Ive gone back to maggie, its lighter, less spongey, more bitey and doesnt slip
-
Ive got coustsinks on an SD7 on the front with a mavic xc717 rim, the sidewall is as it comes from mavic (machined smooth) and the brake is astonishing in the dry without tar, ask danny kearns. It doesnt work in the wet though, also not too sure on how it would work on the back with a maggie and smooth rim, your best bet is to just buy a rim from tarty and get them to pre-grind it and plead ignorance when it turns up

The TPA is theoretically there to account for pad wear over time, however it usually just makes one piston sit further out instead of both equal. Basically the TPA pushes the master cylinder in more to in turn push the pads out further, I think because the hose feeds from one cylinder to another (rather than an equal hose split) it causes one pad to be affected by the TPA. When you bleed the brake you need to have the TPA wound out. On the old style maggies wind the red knob (the TPA) clockwise when sitting on the bike to wind the TPA out. I assume on the new style maggies you wind it anticlockwise when sitting on the bike (I have never used the new style maggie so dont know meself).
-
If youre using a water bleed then its possible that the pistons need oiling, take the pads off, pump and hold the lever so they stay out and drop a tiny amount of oil onto the outside of the piston. Work it back and forth a couple of times and it should help If you have an oil bleed then ignore the above and do the wiki thing for lazy pistons or wind your tpa back off

Cool, some good weights there if they can stand up to the punishment

Make: Triton Model: Deema Year: 2005ish Stock: 26" WB: 1085mm Chain stays: 385mm BB rise: +30mm Head Angle: 72 Degrees Strength rating out of 10: 8 Weight rating out of 10: 10 (1580g frame weighed) Value for Money out of 10: 5 Spec: BT f6 forks, atomz stem, extended monty bars, hope ti BB, middleburns/HSB cloud9, tryall/king rear wheel, mavic/hope front wheel, SD7 front and RB/maggie rear. 9.5kg Overall comments : Superlight and should be stronger than any equivalent weight frame, geometry is very stable and easy to ride. Frame is flexier than aluminium but this doesnt detract from the ride, it can help cushion shocks and give a bit more spring. Relatively expensive compared to some other frames but a 2nd hand bargain Triton also offer a full custom geometry for the same money.
