  1. I never said it didn't count or consider some of the riders. You have to admit, the scene in general especially the support by any cycling organization and the growth of the sport has been very slow. Many top riders have either moved onto other sports while we have so many talented riders at young age that could change that. This thread is about how to make the trials scene bigger in the country (as well as others) and find out how other countries like UK and many others in Europe that are seeing success with the sport. So please don't assume I'm bashing the scene in general but rather help to grow the sport.
  2. Thanks for all the replies! Personally from what I've experienced people take trials as somewhat interesting and at the same time dangerous sport. There's a mixture of people that are interested, not know where to start and enough riders to really influence other riders especially anyone into biking. I'm surprised to hear you guys don't have a lot of LBS support as it sounds like UK has a lot of comps and events that LBS could also benefit by helping out. Many of the biking organization pretty much threw out trials. Granted, if you don't understand the sport watching comps could be boring to many while for many of us it's an inspiration. I'm just trying to find out what's working and how the US can see some more growth. There are a lot of talks about sponsoring comps and getting more regional events going but I think the country needs to start small with local demo's, support from the bike shops and using people that's already into biking become more interested in the sport even if they don't ride trials full time. If anyone else has a feedback please fell free to reply
  3. I'm trying to find out some information so please bare with me. I'd like to know roughly how many trials riders are out there in the UK. I realize cycling in general is big in Europe whereas here in the US people didn't hear much about cycling until Lance Armstrong had a strong media coverage for his consecutive wins at Tour de France. Leaving the roadies aside...trials of course, only a handful have heard of it. In a sense it's great considering the possible growth of the sport in the US but growth wise, it's been very slow and sometimes I wonder if it's declining. What I'd also like to know is, how the trials scene is actually growing, whether it's: Influenced by just ridersMedia coverageLocal bike shop & other online retailers' supportSupport by riders parents/families & general publicRiders eager to making the sport biggeror other reasons I'd like to hear your ideas as well as personal experience. It's a long shot but any input is appreciated!
  4. Similar method when baking headlights in the oven to soften the adhesive wasn't sure at temperatures for the pads. Thanks Steve

    Tensioner Hmmm

Rennen. It's about 1/4" thick and takes a lot of abuse. http://www.rennendesigngroup.com/Rollenlager_Desc.htm
  6. Not sure what BB this person's running but even with Dengura it seems very close. http://observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=30000
  7. I don't have the CNC backings on mine (just plastic) but here was my impression (not to self promote the store or anything). I love the Rock pads first of all along with the old CRM's (RIP :( ) and they seem to be very grabby and loud. Now initially I was expecting it needed to be broken in with my Echo rim that needed a grind pretty badly (rock pads weren't working as well lately) but wanting to go for a quick ride I rode with it for about an hour or so twice. Just this weekend I hopped and the pads started to squeak & grabbed like Rock/CRM's. It's just as loud and considering my rim needs a grind, I was very impressed. I haven't rode in a wet but if it works well like they say they do it may be the pads of the choice. Plus if I don't have to really grind & works this well, I'm not complaining It's no "oh my god THE PADS ON THE MARKETTTT" deal but it's enough to really consider buying them over other pads. On a side note, rock pads are almost too grabby with a sharp grind as if there was tar on it. Might try the green pads for future review

    Helmet

Yep...Protec doesn't meet the standards let alone for a sport like Trials where you are exposed to head injuries often. In the US we have Consumer Reports that test products (non-biased, does not allow manufacturers & companies to advertise) and they rate Protec as "not recommended" helmet for bicycle riding. That's pretty bad considering there are many helmets out there that rate low...but Protec was a brand that had its own category at the very bottom.
  9. I agree and this is when I was riding trials only the first year, no major gaps and ups but the spring inside is not strong enough to keep a tension for trials abuse. It lasted maybed a month or so before I just got a beat up road derailluer for few bucks at the shop.
  10. Used to use pine tar made by Easton...same deal, made a mess, very sticky (obviously) and left the rim messy. I won't use it again.
  11. We have several coming in next week. We're in the USA but if you cannot find them anywhere, let me know. They are US$20 per lever (black or silver) + shipping.
  12. Mine's doing the same, tried with different crank bolts but the drive side is shot. The splines themselves are worn, looking at the teeth some of them are worn in an angle so the crank moves towards that empty space But another friend of mine told me to shove a piece of metal for time being. Not sure how critical it is but with the FFW the crank moves 1~2mm sideways...
  13. Check out www.trialspads.com In the USA, opened recently. We carry brake pads mainly along with brake products like Magura & Hope. Both Magura & Hope brakes can be ordered in either style.
  14. You guys are lucky...not even available in the US, only special order from the UK. Loving the lever

    Helmets

This is just my two cents and not sure if you guys have Consumer Reports (non biased, never paid by any 3rd party companies & does not accept advertising) but Pro-Tec Classic, Bell Faction (BMX), Giro Makai (BMX) and Mongoose (BMX) helmets are NOT recommended for safety reasons. Even the cheaper Bell Citi helmet is actually rated the best while popular helmets like Giro Havoc, Bell X-Ray is rated as the better.

    What Rims?

Echo 07's were re-designed and are very strong. Try-All's are light but the metal is softer so you'll be grinding often (if you do). Echo is heavier but if you're looking for strength I'd go with Echo.
  17. Wrap an old chain around it, put it between a table vise & start hitting the crank with a mallet.
  18. Whoa thanks for the quick reply mates :) I'll definitely give that a try when I get home (Y)
  19. My new Raven6.0 has FSA Platinum Pro BB but lately at certain rotation I hear a loud 'click' every time I pedal hard. (Y) I don't hear it from the rear, the chainline and the ring seems to be straight. It doesn't affect my riding in anyway but it's bothering me a bit. Any ideas as to what this popping noise is? I had this while back with my 5.0 also. :)
  20. I have about 13GB of trials video...it's a porn collection by itself :)
