Bike bag worked for me :D Just make the cleaner a cup of tea every now and again :S"
  4. I agree Dave, thats the only thing I found annoying about my Avid (well, apart from catching the adjuster on rocks - rare though). Didnt find it fading as quickly as you though :S I must say though, that ive not suffered any noticeable fade from my Hope Trials brake yet (and i was specifically TRYING to get it to fade yesterday :D ). Not sure what Dave meant about the caliper/pads... I guess the pads do get hot when they transfer heat to the rotor, but the rotor is there to dissapate that heat, so its a major factor. Maybe worth trying a different rotor... wavy ones are specifically designed to have more surface area, so get rid of heat better. Holes also help. The avid rotor is far from a bad design, though.
  5. Something like 311g for standard axle and steel driveshell. Its nothing like RB hub really... has clutch plates from what i understand. I think theres a patent for it... looking now. Edit: 562 results for 'hub AND bicycle', sod that! Nothing if you search under 'true', 'precision' or 'ackert'. Oh well... Good luck with the hub Andy :D
  6. Does 600g mean anything to you? haha The new ones may be better, hopefully :S
  7. Supercycles have them. Black lever blades.
  8. You'd be better off with the Alex (or a Ronnie/Echo, something similar)... the Monty rims are known for being soft material.
  9. Did you do a big version as well? Stick it up here :S
  10. The Howies blue you had in your MSN display pic looked nice Joe :S
  11. Are the teeth shiny? If so, thats cos its worn IN, not worn :S You'll know if it needs replacing.
  12. Nothing in the Continental range! Most people probably use a Explorer or Vertical, nice and cheap (£13ish), pretty large (2.1 or 2.3") and light (550g ish if memory serves me correctly...). Very thin sidewalls though, and hard compound so things get messy when not riding on dry concrete!
  13. Apparently pretty good in the rain - since it acts as a barrier, keeping them cool.
  14. I wonder if they'll melt when they get hot :-" And be very grippy, like glue...
  15. I wouldnt personally call 132g 'light'... but stiff, and good-looking they are! (Y)
  16. Its fair to say theyre not as tough as, say, a DX32 - however Scott doesnt wanna run a grind :) As for the eyelets - its only the (quite a lot cheaper than Try-All) Onza Hog rims that have them (and maybe the viz ones too).
  17. Some say wider rims give LESS pinch flats... but... personally, I can never tell a difference. Theres still 2 edges to squidge your tube against!
  18. Shaping up to be a pretty decent sized ride! See you all there later :) Ads
  19. I thought that was pretty cool. I wish they'd translated more of the dialogue though, I wasnt able to get most of it. Still, worth a watch :)
  20. Good point... Brisa = 28.6mm Echo/most Onza = 31.8mm Koxx = 25.4mm (standard)
  21. 5 degree rise Mr Oli (Y) Stem Not heard of any failing yet, theyre a very reliable stem, forged construction.
  22. Main reason is that i've not built many wheels with Bulbs yet - its all very well using a spoke calculator, but i wanna make 100% sure the lengths are correct, so prefer to use my own experience for the lengths. Having said that, i'll be updating it soon with lenghts for more hubs/rims. Cheers, Adam

  24. Just a little pic i knocked together and a small update: http://www.tartybikes.trials-shack.co.uk/t...ecomparison.jpg It appears (from trying to fit my old forks yesterday) that the reason for the higher bars (15mm higher) on the proto frame is that its head tube is 15mm longer! Other than that, the wheelbase is a smidge longer, the top tube appears to follow a higher line, and the reach is a tad longer. I had a bit of a (street) ride last night, and quite enjoyed it. As expected, even with 400g heavier forks than im used to, it sits on the back wheel very nicely. As Ben said, sidehopping appears easier, and I also got the hang of backwheeling quite quickly. Gapping/upping to front wheel is very very nice, the high BB puts you more over the front axle and the bike seems to just float up! Back wheel gapping is very strange at first - the bike feels very light due to it wanting to fire the back end through, but with a small change in technique (not as much pedalling force and more body movement) I could gap as far as on my standard Rex. Next up - natural, where im expecting it to shine :(
